"Once the most exalted mage in all of Talarius, Toller was often the last line of defence against the kingdom's enemies.   He often drove back the hordes, the last bastion  breaking wave after wave until that fateful day.  On that day, he pushed his powers too far, overstretching his capabilities, scrambling his mind as a consequence.

Now the kingdom's most potent mage appears to many as a muddled old man, and although he still has a vast mental library of spells that he can recount and use.  he can't remember what they all do and, more often than not, uses the wrong magic for the job.  Even now, King Garmond respects him and values his council but is aware that he is potentially a dangerous liability with all the power he still possesses.  

To that end, Garmond has created the Talarian College of Magic to ensure proper training for mages maintaining their magical might and provide a team of "fixers" in case Toller's magic glitches and causes problems. 

So far, Toller has kept its members very busy insisting on using magic for everything, warming his tea, sweeping his study, fetching his books. All of which has resulted in minor magical mishaps such as turning his broom into a lizard and setting fire to the curtains.  Lately, his main area of study has been focused on regaining his memory and with that control of his magic.   The King desperately wants him back on form and he has dedicated a team of magical researchers to help him.  The young Therion Caller Lydia is proving to be instrumental in this research, gaining valuable insight from the powerful beings at her disposal.

But today it was the twins who are visiting 'Grandad Toller' as they had affectionately named him, he always had the most outrageous stories, he was always very kind to them and most of all because he had a massive stash of the best biscuits!"

"Master Kang, I have a question for you," asked Abel, "who is the man they call Kotaro?". "They say he was once a monk here at the monastery of the Order of the Golden Lotus, is this true?".

"What you say is true, he was once part of our order, but unfortunately, he was unable to control his temper. As a result, he killed four monks during a training incident, and for this, he was banished from the monastery."

Unbeknown to Kang, that is not the whole truth of what transpired. The monk known as Kotaro was chosen to receive the Mark of the Dragon. With this action, the great Bahamut informed him of an assassination plot to kill the Grand Master and betray the location of the Dragon King to a rival nation.  Slaying the Dragon protector of Talarius would weaken the Kingdom and open them up for an invasion.

Bahamut chose Kotaro to identify the assassins and end their plotting. However, whilst executing his orders, the massacre witnessed by the other initiates left them feeling uneasy in his presence, resulting in him having to leave the order.     

Kotaro's actual name isn't known. He arrived in Talarius a little while after Garmond, immediately pledging his loyalty and services to the new King.   Even though Kotaro is a solitary character, wherever the King appears, he is never too far away, although whether you can see him or not is another matter.   He is the sworn protector of the Dragon.

"Ah, we have been waiting for you, Abel. Now we can begin in earnest!"

The Grand Master led the way through the Dragon Gate and into the temple compound where the snow fell, laying its powdery white carpet.  Kang had been at the order's temple monastery in the Drakespine since he was a child.  An affinity with earth magic resulted in a journey to the temple where he was offered to the monks, as is tradition.  Through the many years of training, he demonstrated both great skill and patience and an expert mastery over the element of earth.  When it became time for the old Grand Master to stand down, Kang was uncontested to take his place and unanimously welcomed by his fellow monks.

Incredulously inside, situated at all corners and growing out from the stone floor, were trees full of spring's pink cherry blossom. The juxtaposition of the pink blossom falling on the white snow was both beautiful and alien to Abel's senses.

Here in this compound, the Order of the Golden Lotus trained a minimum of three times a day, often more. Abel looked behind him as he heard the large entrance gate clang shut, "there is no point in thinking of leaving now. After today's snowfall, the gate will not open again until spring." 

"What, wait!" Abel cried, "you mean I am trapped here until then?"

"We are all trapped here until the snow breaks and thaws, you, me and Cedric. We must use this time wisely to help your friend."

Kang pointed across the courtyard with a long, precise finger at the man Abel had known most of his life. He was relieved to see his friend alive. Drawing closer Abel could see the conflict written all over Cedric's face as though he was wrestling demons of his own.  

"Gentlemen, you are required to attend each of my classes, including after-class training, you will partner with each other.  In addition, you are expected to complete duties to contribute to the upkeep of the monastery. Your lives will be difficult, both physically and mentally, but the efforts that each of you puts in will be matched by the rewards you will gain. This is the traditional way of our order, and you have an excellent opportunity to learn by immersion in an environment that fosters this learning."

"Your first lesson starts now, follow my form, copy my moves." The master began to weave a complex pattern in front of both men, his hands and feet moving together, blocking, kicking and punching.  When both men could imitate Kang's movements, he turned the men to face one another. "The kata I have taught you underpins everything we teach here, and you will both practise it every day. I have introduced you to how we attack and defend against an opponent simultaneously, and you will practice this. To my count, 1...2...3...4...5...and back to start again."

"Move, strike, throw, get up, reset, go. We are training without thought, without thinking and without feeling. Turn, repeat, move and strike."

"We must remove the darkness inside you, Cedric...2...3...4...You can not be driven by the darkness move out from underneath it."

"Your skills and ability are yours and not the darkness within you. It is using you to deliver what it desires. Strike Cedric down Abel, beat him into submission, make his anger rise up and let the darkness consume him. 1...2...3...4..and back to start again.  Let us bring him to the light."

As the master of the temple counted out the timings through his physical form interjected with his wisdom, his chanting meditation projected his astral form onto the transdimensional plane as he needed to seek further advice from the Dragon King.

All the while, the snow continued to fall in the courtyard laying its powdery white carpet.

His pursuit of the Barghest led him to the Drakespine mountains. Hunting his prey amidst a landscape of ice and snow he found had its own unique set of challenges. Finally, he cornered the beast upon a natural ice bridge, where it fought ferociously as only a wounded predator can.  Eventually, Cedric gained the upper hand, raising his sword to strike the fatal blow triumph turned to shock in his lungs as his enemy struck down, breaking the ice at their feet, sending both fighters tumbling into the darkness below. 

Somehow, he was still alive, but the Barghest was nowhere to be seen. Regaining his feet with a head pounding, the darkness within him driving a hunt, which consumes him for two additional days.  

And now, the power to wield darkness that had been such a boon to him feels tainted. The inherent evil was beginning to consume him. The darkness itself was not evil, he knew - it was true that there could be no light without darkness, as these two forces were two halves of the same whole.  Despite this knowledge, Cedric felt emotionally trapped. His blackened armour covered with intricate carvings of demons had saved him so many times, but now it felt like a cage – the heaviest of cages. Once the extension of his being, his sword that he used to amplify his inner darkness and channel it into mighty blows was now a burden to him, weighing him down with every step. He could not go on like this.    

The Barghest's dried blood had soaked his cloak and armour, seeping into his clothing beneath the metal. The icy winds on the Drakespine left him frozen to his core. Every step was laboured, and each slower and shorter than the last. The battle had left him injured and aching, and now that the adrenaline rush had passed, he felt every laceration, every bruise and broken bone. Would the elements finally take him? Was this the end?  

"Should I die this night, I do so happily in the knowledge that my King has been avenged, and a great evil is no more." With this thought, his consciousness faded, and with it, the cold and pain ceased to matter.  

As his eyelids closed, he saw a vision of a shadowy figure standing over him. A dragon? Then this indeed was the end.

As the nation teetered on the brink of utter chaos, out of nowhere, a lone man arrived in Oakesgate, the kingdom's capital city, announcing himself as King, taking the crown and sitting atop the throne.

The man had an air of power and an aura that commanded respect from those around him. Despite his arrival, rioting broke out in the streets as the gang and guilds' heads refused to acknowledge him and attempted to remove this false King.

Over the weeks that followed, Garmond personally thwarted many assassination attempts, each time offering the assailant a chance to repent and serve him. His prowess in dealing with these attackers and his noble and merciful ways won him the respect of the Talarian Military leaders, who chose to pledge loyalty to him.

The first to swear allegiance were the elite Order of the Black Wing. Commanded by the legendary Dark Knight, these elite knights fought both on foot and mounted and utilised the wondrous Talarian Air Ships that make up the Black Wing Armada. In the absence of the Dark Knight. King Garmond appointed the Black Wing as his bodyguard, recolouring their armour from the traditional Dark Blue and gold to his own preferred green and gold, creating the "Kingsguard".

The Kingsguard consists of several separate units, each with a focused combat speciality. The Shield Guard, led by Captain Callan, specialise in close combat and melee defence and are often found at the side of the King himself. They have perfected defensive tactics, protecting their ruler with their own lives if needed.   

The Glaive Guard, led by Captain Zahurd, are deployed as palace guards armed with large ornamental runic Glaives. Due to their rigorous martial training, they wield this weapon to devastating effect. When formed upon the battlefield, the Glaive Guard are a tight fighting force that can keep the enemy out of arms reach. It is not unknown for them to deploy behind the Shield guard fighting through the shield wall. 

The Greatswords, led by Captain Amara, wield massive two-handed rune blades, which only the very strongest of the Kingsguard recruits can learn, enabling them to join the ranks. However, their strength and stamina are legendary, and despite their weapon of choice, the enemy is likely to tire long before the Greatswords do. 

Last but not least, there is the Kingsguard Cavalry, led by Captain Gul'dar. All the Kingsguard have animal companions who live in an enormous stable complex adjoining the Oakesgate Barracks. As the creatures are born, each warrior is allocated one as their mount. They hand rear this new animal companion from a baby creating a special bond. 

The sidearm of choice for the Kingsguard is the Falcata, a broad-bladed short sword perfect for chopping and capable of cleaving an opponent in two. Wielded by the skilled Kingsguard warriors, these blades are most deadly.

"Get down, you maniac!" Sidney shouted up at Abel as the warrior stood on the ramparts of the city wall high above him.  The Captain of the Order of the Dragon was standing statuesque, focused with his giant spear in hand.  What had started as a heated drunken discussion turned argument last night had escalated into a live demonstration today.

It all seemed so clear in Abel's head. The enemy would expect a frontal attack. They may even be somewhat prepared to deal with flanking and rear attacks, but could they possibly expect an attack from the air? This theory is what he had proposed to the diminutive engineer who accused him of just being suicidal.  "No way can anyone, let alone you, jump from such a height and land with great accuracy to spear an opponent. Then there is the question of injuring yourself in the process. It's a suicide mission, I tell you!"

However, with the practice dummy no more than 12 feet away from where the dwarf stood, he proceeded to witness the man at the top of the castle jump and descend by the most direct route possible, perfectly skewering the target right through the head.  Abel rose to his feet unscathed, "see?".

"Oh, my, oh my, oh my, my boy, you weren't kidding. That was amazing, probably one of the most amazing things I have seen in all my days," and the old dwarf wasn't kidding. "I should have believed you last night; however, you have convinced me, right here and now!  I'll make you your cruiser. Let's take this conversation to my workshop I feel there is no time to waste!"

So from a drunken night at the tavern and a potential reckless demonstration, the Talarian Airship was conceived. These airships levitate and fly using grav engines designed by Sidney, which keep these battle barges in the air.  Powered by the Esper crystals containing the souls of creatures with a strong affinity to the air element.  This is the key to making everything function, enabling these agile ships to deliver their deadly payload into the heart of the enemy.

As the dwarf constructed, Abel had only one task set him by the engineer. He needed to hunt the wind drakes to capture their souls, for this is what's inside the crystals.  This task quickly became the right of passage, the initiation ceremony into the Order of the Dragon.  It serves two purposes, supplying Sidney with the means to power his airships and proving that the warriors are the correct ones to ride in them.

"Almost there..."

Looking down at the scar on his right hand just behind the thumb, it ached with phantom pain from a long-ago memory. He rubs his beard while recounting the memory of the incident from his youth. "Grey. When did it become so grey?" he chuckles to himself. Up ahead, the sun breaks through the trees casting rays of golden glow on the trail ahead. One foot in front of the other, he emerges from the tree line to an open field of farmland with a beaten path running through it.

"Not too far now." He whispers to himself. He notices the weight of his pack and adjusts the strap over his shoulder as he takes a quick drink from his waterskin. Step leads to step he trudged on, with his head down. With the future weighing heavy on his mind, lost in thought, he is stopped abruptly by a loud shout. "HALT! State your name and business."

Had he arrived already? It seemed like only a moment since the woods. Before him stands the majestic city walls of Oakesgate, the grand capital of Talarius. He looks at the guards, slightly puzzled and steps forward.

"I SAID HALT!" The tip of a spear pointed directly at his nose, inches away from his face. The guard holding the spear is young, twenty years of age at best. He knows he could disarm the guard in a heartbeat, but that would make the youth look a fool. He chooses diplomacy instead. "Young man," He says calmly ", Is this how you greet your king?"

This set contains one Female Water Mage and one Male Fire Mage. 

Edillion is a world rife with Magic in many forms.  Academics and engineers  have long studied magic and have learnt some secrets to harness its power.  It is used in every day life to provide power to machines, provide illumination and all manner of mundane uses.  They have also found ways to harness the power of magic in a weaponised form.  This is often done using machines to launch magical projectiles or create a magical explosion of sorts.  Through the use of Esper stones (crystals containing the souls of creatures) the magic can be elementally attuned to the element of the creature whose soul is contained within.  A little salamander may provide enough magical fire energy to power a cooking appliance or a fire lighter, but with a stone containing the soul of a mighty red dragon – you could provide warmth and power cooking facilities for an entire city!

Harnessing the souls into the Esper stones takes a special kind of individual to do, requiring them to be present a the time of death of the creature whilst performing an enchantment to contain the soul.  This is a skill learned from the ancient elves who were custodians over the Life tree, through whose roots all souls pass once departed.  The souls are sometimes recycled to be born anew and other times are lost to the void.  those that were beginning to be lost were cultivated by the Elves and stored in crystals until they could be used in a respectful way.

There are also those that are innately attuned to magic and through their natural ability and elemental affinity can harness magical power using their own body as a conduit.  As with most creatures, these “sorcerers” have only a single element to which they are attuned.  It is possible to retrain to another element with strenuous study, although it is almost unheard of to be able to control multiple elements at once. 

There are also gifted individuals that can speak to the souls contained within the Esper Crystals and summon them into physical form for a short period of time.

This set contains 2 versions of Lydia the Therion Caller model. One with a plush mascot on her hip and one without.

Each time she allowed the voices to rise inside her head, Lydia was transported back to her childhood. Always there, the whispers in the wind and the murmurings.  There was no hiding from them.  They were so loud during the hours of darkness.  Being a young girl, she told her playmates, who told their parents who talked and eventually the entire village concluded she was cursed and stopped their children playing with her.  Now left alone, she listened more to the voices, growing ever louder and louder.

At the age of eight, her family came to the Oakesgate for the Festival of Light.  A popular celebration in the Talarian calendar where  the streets are line with lanterns, street vendors pedal sweet and savoury treats and fireworks are set off to celebrate the Godess of light. Because of this, the city was packed tightly with revellers.  Was it the claustrophobic feeling caused by the bodies around her or the choir of voices inside her head, so loud and so numerous, that caused her to break down in the street? Of this, Lydia did not know.  All she remembers of that day was the fire that exploded in her brain. As uncontrollable tears poured from her eyes, an angel appeared, soothing her, quietening the voices and speaking to her, helping her.

That angel was Lilly, who used her magic to soothe the crying child, and when told the reason for the episode, the archmage believed that the young girl was one known as a caller and resolved herself to help. 

Lydia was enrolled into the college of magic, and her family were moved to the capital by order of the King. With Lilly's help, and with guidance from Grand High Mage Toller, she learned to silence the voices inside her head and ultimately to command those around her.  Lilly also discovered that Lydia had a particularly rare talent and was able to speak directly to the souls contained within Esper crystals and can call them into a physical form if needed. 

Many callers can summon smaller creatures like wolves, goblins, drakes and sometimes even humanoids, ogres and trolls.  But Lydia is exceptional.  She has a true gift and can speak to the Therions, mighty creatures of legend whose souls are so powerful as to be responsible for maintaining the continent afloat.  She has a particular fondness for the Mist Dragon and her friend Ifrit, with whom she spends most of her free time.

This set contains 2 models of the Twin court mages - Pandi and Portia.

Sidney was in the one place above all others he would rather be, his workshop.  Troublemakers would argue that his favourite place was one of the many taverns around Oakesgate, but Sidney would quickly interject that these were the best places to foster ideas as good beer loosens the brain!  Included among the best ideas that he'd had, during lubrication, was the airship, a concept cooked up with Abel during one of their infamous drinking sessions.  Initially, the idea of airships had sounded ludicrous. However, people had once again underestimated Sidney's superior skill and technical genius.  Mixed in with him being bloody-minded, he had used all his ability to create a craft that was both fast and agile.  Today though, the one he was currently surveying needed "tweaking", and he had put aside the morning to do just this.

"And for tweaking, there is nothing better than my favourite wrench,' He muttered to himself as he reached out to pick it up from where he had just put it down.  But the wrench wasn't there.  Turning to look this time instead of just patting with just his hand, Sidney couldn't see it anywhere.  "Where has that gone? I've only just put it down, and now I can't find it. This is ridiculous!" he grumbled.   In a fit of rage, the old dwarf starts to bang and crash around like a bad-tempered old bear, first lifting one thing and then another, culminating in him rummaging through his workbench for the now missing tool.

Above this din, a child's giggle can be heard from the balcony above. Looking up to where the sound came from, floating just above his head, is his missing wrench.  Each time the old dwarf jumps to try and grab it, the wrench floats that little bit higher making him rage and shout, causing more and more joy for the pranksters.  Laughing so hard, two young children identical in age spill out from behind a curtain. The sight of the dwarf trying to propel himself into the air and missing his target proving to be just too much for them.

Spying the twins as the ones behind yet another prank at his expense, Sidney immediately knew what to do. "Lilly, Lilly, the twins are causing trouble again!" he boomed, laughing out loud at the same time.  "That's not fair, Little Uncle calling for Lilly's help", the twins knew how tough she could be.  Lilly was the person who they called upon to put out actual fires caused by the Twins during their frequent temper tantrums.  With the threat of Lilly approaching, the twins were off scampering away, looking for their next victim.

Sidney knew the twins were just children playing pranks, and usually, he would be encouraged to join in, but today he wanted to finish what he had started with the airship.  Musing to himself, sharing a sense of humour with King Garamond, who was just as bad as they were for playing pranks, was why they got away with so much.  That and the fact they were still just children. Children, he thought, shaking his head, the most potent fire mages in the kingdom are just two younglings.  Each twin could amplify the ability of the other to furious and frightening heights! And being so young, Sidney was as protective of them as if they were his own.

There are 2 variations of Abel, with and without helmet.

"Abel, Abel, where are you?" called Lilly. She was in a hurry, running in the direction of the practice area. Alerting a practising member of the Order of the Dragon to her presence as early as possible was a sensible idea.

Captain Abel had a reputation amongst the Kingsguard due to his elven agility. He was a swift and cunning fighter that was near impossible to predict in a fight! Years of practice brought with it deadly skill and control. He could sometimes lose himself in the dance of death, and Lilly wanted to make sure she didn't surprise him.

Lilly needn't have been worried. The captain stood still as a statue as she entered the training hall. The exertion of his practice was plain for all to see as sweat glistened and clung to his torso. He was not out of breath.

"What is it, Princess?"

Although friends for years, this wasn't the only reason Abel was so willing to help Lilly. He loved her…was in love with her. It still hurt every day that she had chosen Cedric over him; however, he was at her disposal out of duty. Cedric was his best friend, and if in danger, he needed his help.

Friends since their youth, Able was always getting the pair into trouble due to his recklessness. Over the years, the two had fought side by side during many battles. Their awareness of each other forged over many years had saved their life so many times.  Who was the better fighter? Abel had bested Cedric in personal combat, the only man to do so. Even though Cedric claimed he had let his friend beat him, he knew differently.

And now his friend was in trouble.  However, this wasn't the first time, but something in Lilly's voice told him it was serious, and because of this, Abel was ready. It didn't take him long to arm himself, pulling on his drake mantel and grabbing his spear, which he had leaned against the wall as he heard Lilly approach. He was ready.

The experience of his induction into the Order of The Dragon had granted Abel unrivalled knowledge of Drakespine Mountains among the people of Talarius. Lilly had informed him Cedric was last seen following the Barghest in that direction, something he could quickly confirm using his ability as a tracker.  It hadn't tested his skills. The tracks left by both had been plain to see.

Now, standing on the broken ice bridge, he could see the struggle that had taken place and where both combatants had fallen.  If Cedric was alive, he now had a good idea where he would be.

Arriving at the gates of the mountain monastery, Abel had first discovered this place during his trial. When starving close to death, they had taken him out of the fierce snowstorm. It was the only way he had survived his challenge. He struck the giant bell at the entrance with its hammer to announce his presence. He didn't have to wait long. The monastery gates of the order of the golden lotus opened silently, and Grand Master Kang confronted him. "He is here."

There are 2 versions of Lilly - one with a plush mascot on her hip and one without.

"Quickly now, quickly bring him in and lay him out on the large stone table over there. We don't have much time.”

Navigating the packed room with its books, bottles, and furniture was difficult for the two guards carrying their dead comrade between them made more complicated as they didn't like to look at his horrific wound where the Barghest had ripped out his life.

“Hold him down”, the noble lady ordered, for one so slight she had a commanding presence which they obeyed immediately. "I don't think we will have much joy with butterflies and moths to heal this wound; we are going to need something more", she muttered to herself, now seeing the true extent of the damage.

Having long studied magic learning many of its secrets, and harnessing its power Lilly was a potent user, a manipulator of the element of water. Although trained in the art of offensive magic, her preference was as a healer, where she channelled her understanding into this potent gift. What was now before her would test her skills to their very limits. To find out what she needed to know, her only option was to resurrect this dead guard, which would mean channelling an esper crystal, one containing a phoenix soul.

Lily gently lifted the purple stone from its usual resting place. As she touched it, the surface burst into life. It seemed it know what was expected from it.  Closing her eyes, she began to channel the power of the stone into herself. As she did, tendrils of what looked like purple flame entered her body, and in the same way, as the stone had begun to glow, so did she. After what seemed like an age to the guards holding the patient, which was indeed only seconds, Lilly placed her hand over the dead man's wound. As she did, the purple energy rushed out of her body, through her hand and into the lifeless man.

Almost immediately, the body on the table convulsed and began to strain against its captives. "Hold him, hold him tight. His dead body is once again filling with life which will bring it and his mind, confusion."  The guards held their comrade down and watched in awe as his terrible wound healed and the colour drained back into his face. Helping the once dead man sit, all three guards eyed Lilly with a mix of awe and fear, made all the more uncomfortable when she asked in a voice like ice, "Where is Cedric?"

Garmond decreed that all citizens over the age of 18 must go through mandatory military training and a period of 5 years military service.  During a 6 week basic training period, all soldiers are assessed to determine their key proficiencies and where they can best serve. 

Those showing an aptitude for ranged weapons are initially drafted into the yeomen and spend their time at the target range practicing with their long bows. 

Those that show an aptitude for Melee combat (or even just no real aptitude at all!) are usually enrolled in the Light Infantry as men at arms.  Then there are those that occasionally appear that have something a little more special to offer...

Once their period of mandatory service was over, the citizens of Talarius are given 2 options – return to their home lives and continue with their family trades whilst continuing to maintain their combat training (albeit in a less active manner) and remaining on standby in case of a national emergency; or continue their service as professional soldiers.  A large number obviously are always desperate to get out of harms way and return to civilian life, raise a family and so on.

Those that choose to remain have a number of paths open to them.  There are officer roles commanding units, detachments or even legions.  There are specilaised roles within the Light Infantry and Light Cavalry that require someone with both grit and experience.  And then there are the Knightly orders that will always be on the lookout for talented individuals

"Almost there..."

Looking down at the scar on his right hand just behind the thumb, it ached with phantom pain from a long-ago memory. He rubs his beard while recounting the memory of the incident from his youth. "Grey. When did it become so grey?" he chuckles to himself. Up ahead, the sun breaks through the trees casting rays of golden glow on the trail ahead. One foot in front of the other, he emerges from the tree line to an open field of farmland with a beaten path running through it.

"Not too far now." He whispers to himself. He notices the weight of his pack and adjusts the strap over his shoulder as he takes a quick drink from his waterskin. Step leads to step he trudged on, with his head down. With the future weighing heavy on his mind, lost in thought, he is stopped abruptly by a loud shout. "HALT! State your name and business."

Had he arrived already? It seemed like only a moment since the woods. Before him stands the majestic city walls of Oakesgate, the grand capital of Talarius. He looks at the guards, slightly puzzled and steps forward.

"I SAID HALT!" The tip of a spear pointed directly at his nose, inches away from his face. The guard holding the spear is young, twenty years of age at best. He knows he could disarm the guard in a heartbeat, but that would make the youth look a fool. He chooses diplomacy instead. "Young man," He says calmly ", Is this how you greet your king?"

As the nation teetered on the brink of utter chaos, out of nowhere, a lone man arrived in Oakesgate, the kingdom's capital city, announcing himself as King, taking the crown and sitting atop the throne.

The man had an air of power and an aura that commanded respect from those around him. Despite his arrival, rioting broke out in the streets as the gang and guilds' heads refused to acknowledge him and attempted to remove this false King.

Over the weeks that followed, Garmond personally thwarted many assassination attempts, each time offering the assailant a chance to repent and serve him. His prowess in dealing with these attackers and his noble and merciful ways won him the respect of the Talarian Military leaders, who chose to pledge loyalty to him.

The first to swear allegiance were the elite Order of the Black Wing. Commanded by the legendary Dark Knight, these elite knights fought both on foot and mounted and utilised the wondrous Talarian Air Ships that make up the Black Wing Armada. In the absence of the Dark Knight. King Garmond appointed the Black Wing as his bodyguard, recolouring their armour from the traditional Dark Blue and gold to his own preferred green and gold, creating the "Kingsguard".

The Kingsguard consists of several separate units, each with a focused combat speciality. The Shield Guard, led by Captain Callan, specialise in close combat and melee defence and are often found at the side of the King himself. They have perfected defensive tactics, protecting their ruler with their own lives if needed.   

The Glaive Guard, led by Captain Zahurd, are deployed as palace guards armed with large ornamental runic Glaives. Due to their rigorous martial training, they wield this weapon to devastating effect. When formed upon the battlefield, the Glaive Guard are a tight fighting force that can keep the enemy out of arms reach. It is not unknown for them to deploy behind the Shield guard fighting through the shield wall. 

The Greatswords, led by Captain Amara, wield massive two-handed rune blades, which only the very strongest of the Kingsguard recruits can learn, enabling them to join the ranks. However, their strength and stamina are legendary, and despite their weapon of choice, the enemy is likely to tire long before the Greatswords do. 

Last but not least, there is the Kingsguard Cavalry, led by Captain Gul'dar. All the Kingsguard have animal companions who live in an enormous stable complex adjoining the Oakesgate Barracks. As the creatures are born, each warrior is allocated one as their mount. They hand rear this new animal companion from a baby creating a special bond. 

The sidearm of choice for the Kingsguard is the Falcata, a broad-bladed short sword perfect for chopping and capable of cleaving an opponent in two. Wielded by the skilled Kingsguard warriors, these blades are most deadly.

"Get down, you maniac!" Sidney shouted up at Abel as the warrior stood on the ramparts of the city wall high above him.  The Captain of the Order of the Dragon was standing statuesque, focused with his giant spear in hand.  What had started as a heated drunken discussion turned argument last night had escalated into a live demonstration today.

It all seemed so clear in Abel's head. The enemy would expect a frontal attack. They may even be somewhat prepared to deal with flanking and rear attacks, but could they possibly expect an attack from the air? This theory is what he had proposed to the diminutive engineer who accused him of just being suicidal.  "No way can anyone, let alone you, jump from such a height and land with great accuracy to spear an opponent. Then there is the question of injuring yourself in the process. It's a suicide mission, I tell you!"

However, with the practice dummy no more than 12 feet away from where the dwarf stood, he proceeded to witness the man at the top of the castle jump and descend by the most direct route possible, perfectly skewering the target right through the head.  Abel rose to his feet unscathed, "see?".

"Oh, my, oh my, oh my, my boy, you weren't kidding. That was amazing, probably one of the most amazing things I have seen in all my days," and the old dwarf wasn't kidding. "I should have believed you last night; however, you have convinced me, right here and now!  I'll make you your cruiser. Let's take this conversation to my workshop I feel there is no time to waste!"

So from a drunken night at the tavern and a potential reckless demonstration, the Talarian Airship was conceived. These airships levitate and fly using grav engines designed by Sidney, which keep these battle barges in the air.  Powered by the Esper crystals containing the souls of creatures with a strong affinity to the air element.  This is the key to making everything function, enabling these agile ships to deliver their deadly payload into the heart of the enemy.

As the dwarf constructed, Abel had only one task set him by the engineer. He needed to hunt the wind drakes to capture their souls, for this is what's inside the crystals.  This task quickly became the right of passage, the initiation ceremony into the Order of the Dragon.  It serves two purposes, supplying Sidney with the means to power his airships and proving that the warriors are the correct ones to ride in them.

King Garmond appointed the Black Wing as his bodyguard, recolouring their armour from the traditional Dark Blue and gold to his own preferred green and gold, creating the "Kingsguard".

The Kingsguard consists of several separate units, each with a focused combat speciality. The Shield Guard, led by Captain Callan, specialise in close combat and melee defence and are often found at the side of the King himself. They have perfected defensive tactics, protecting their ruler with their own lives if needed.   

The Glaive Guard, led by Captain Zahurd, are deployed as palace guards armed with large ornamental runic Glaives. Due to their rigorous martial training, they wield this weapon to devastating effect. When formed upon the battlefield, the Glaive Guard are a tight fighting force that can keep the enemy out of arms reach. It is not unknown for them to deploy behind the Shield guard fighting through the shield wall. 

The Greatswords, led by Captain Amara, wield massive two-handed rune blades, which only the very strongest of the Kingsguard recruits can learn, enabling them to join the ranks. However, their strength and stamina are legendary, and despite their weapon of choice, the enemy is likely to tire long before the Greatswords do. 

Last but not least, there is the Kingsguard Cavalry, led by Captain Gul'dar. All the Kingsguard have animal companions who live in an enormous stable complex adjoining the Oakesgate Barracks. As the creatures are born, each warrior is allocated one as their mount. They hand rear this new animal companion from a baby creating a special bond. 

The sidearm of choice for the Kingsguard is the Falcata, a broad-bladed short sword perfect for chopping and capable of cleaving an opponent in two. Wielded by the skilled Kingsguard warriors, these blades are most deadly.

His pursuit of the Barghest led him to the Drakespine mountains. Hunting his prey amidst a landscape of ice and snow he found had its own unique set of challenges. Finally, he cornered the beast upon a natural ice bridge, where it fought ferociously as only a wounded predator can.  Eventually, Cedric gained the upper hand, raising his sword to strike the fatal blow triumph turned to shock in his lungs as his enemy struck down, breaking the ice at their feet, sending both fighters tumbling into the darkness below. 

Somehow, he was still alive, but the Barghest was nowhere to be seen. Regaining his feet with a head pounding, the darkness within him driving a hunt, which consumes him for two additional days.  

And now, the power to wield darkness that had been such a boon to him feels tainted. The inherent evil was beginning to consume him. The darkness itself was not evil, he knew - it was true that there could be no light without darkness, as these two forces were two halves of the same whole.  Despite this knowledge, Cedric felt emotionally trapped. His blackened armour covered with intricate carvings of demons had saved him so many times, but now it felt like a cage – the heaviest of cages. Once the extension of his being, his sword that he used to amplify his inner darkness and channel it into mighty blows was now a burden to him, weighing him down with every step. He could not go on like this.    

The Barghest's dried blood had soaked his cloak and armour, seeping into his clothing beneath the metal. The icy winds on the Drakespine left him frozen to his core. Every step was laboured, and each slower and shorter than the last. The battle had left him injured and aching, and now that the adrenaline rush had passed, he felt every laceration, every bruise and broken bone. Would the elements finally take him? Was this the end?  

"Should I die this night, I do so happily in the knowledge that my King has been avenged, and a great evil is no more." With this thought, his consciousness faded, and with it, the cold and pain ceased to matter.  

As his eyelids closed, he saw a vision of a shadowy figure standing over him. A dragon? Then this indeed was the end.

The Grand Master led the way through the Dragon Gate and into the temple compound where the snow fell, laying its powdery white carpet.  Kang had been at the order's temple monastery in the Drakespine since he was a child.  An affinity with earth magic resulted in a journey to the temple where he was offered to the monks, as is tradition.  Through the many years of training, he demonstrated both great skill and patience and an expert mastery over the element of earth.  When it became time for the old Grand Master to stand down, Kang was uncontested to take his place and unanimously welcomed by his fellow monks.

Incredulously inside, situated at all corners and growing out from the stone floor, were trees full of spring's pink cherry blossom. The juxtaposition of the pink blossom falling on the white snow was both beautiful and alien to Abel's senses.

Here in this compound, the Order of the Golden Lotus trained a minimum of three times a day, often more. Abel looked behind him as he heard the large entrance gate clang shut, "there is no point in thinking of leaving now. After today's snowfall, the gate will not open again until spring." 

"What, wait!" Abel cried, "you mean I am trapped here until then?"

Your lives will be difficult, both physically and mentally, but the efforts that each of you puts in will be matched by the rewards you will gain. This is the traditional way of our order, and you have an excellent opportunity to learn by immersion in an environment that fosters this learning."

"Your first lesson starts now, follow my form, copy my moves." As the master of the temple counted out the timings through his physical form interjected with his wisdom, his chanting meditation projected his astral form onto the transdimensional plane as he needed to seek further advice from the Dragon King.

"Master Kang, I have a question for you," asked Abel, "who is the man they call Kotaro?". "They say he was once a monk here at the monastery of the Order of the Golden Lotus, is this true?".

"What you say is true, he was once part of our order, but unfortunately, he was unable to control his temper. As a result, he killed four monks during a training incident, and for this, he was banished from the monastery."

Unbeknown to Kang, that is not the whole truth of what transpired. The monk known as Kotaro was chosen to receive the Mark of the Dragon. With this action, the great Bahamut informed him of an assassination plot to kill the Grand Master and betray the location of the Dragon King to a rival nation.  Slaying the Dragon protector of Talarius would weaken the Kingdom and open them up for an invasion.

Bahamut chose Kotaro to identify the assassins and end their plotting. However, whilst executing his orders, the massacre witnessed by the other initiates left them feeling uneasy in his presence, resulting in him having to leave the order.     

Kotaro's actual name isn't known. He arrived in Talarius a little while after Garmond, immediately pledging his loyalty and services to the new King.   Even though Kotaro is a solitary character, wherever the King appears, he is never too far away, although whether you can see him or not is another matter.   He is the sworn protector of the Dragon.

But today it was the twins who are visiting 'Grandad Toller' as they had affectionately named him, he always had the most outrageous stories, he was always very kind to them and most of all because he had a massive stash of the best biscuits!"

"Garmond decreed that all citizens over the age of 18 must go through mandatory military training and a period of 5 years military service.  During a 6 week basic training period, all soldiers are assessed to determine their key proficiencies and where they can best serve. 

Those showing an aptitude for ranged weapons are initially drafted into the yeomen and spend their time at the target range practicing with their long bows. 

Those that show an aptitude for Melee combat (or even just no real aptitude at all!) are usually enrolled in the Light Infantry as men at arms.  Then there are those that occasionally appear that have something a little more special to offer...

Once their period of mandatory service was over, the citizens of Talarius are given 2 options – return to their home lives and continue with their family trades whilst continuing to maintain their combat training (albeit in a less active manner) and remaining on standby in case of a national emergency; or continue their service as professional soldiers.  A large number obviously are always desperate to get out of harms way and return to civilian life, raise a family and so on.

The Glaive Guard, led by Captain Zahurd, are deployed as palace guards armed with large ornamental runic Glaives. Due to their rigorous martial training, they wield this weapon to devastating effect. When formed upon the battlefield, the Glaive Guard are a tight fighting force that can keep the enemy out of arms reach. It is not unknown for them to deploy behind the Shield guard fighting through the shield wall. 

The Greatswords, led by Captain Amara, wield massive two-handed rune blades, which only the very strongest of the Kingsguard recruits can learn, enabling them to join the ranks. However, their strength and stamina are legendary, and despite their weapon of choice, the enemy is likely to tire long before the Greatswords do. 

Last but not least, there is the Kingsguard Cavalry, led by Captain Gul'dar. All the Kingsguard have animal companions who live in an enormous stable complex adjoining the Oakesgate Barracks. As the creatures are born, each warrior is allocated one as their mount. They hand rear this new animal companion from a baby creating a special bond. 

The sidearm of choice for the Kingsguard is the Falcata, a broad-bladed short sword perfect for chopping and capable of cleaving an opponent in two. Wielded by the skilled Kingsguard warriors, these blades are most deadly.

The pack contains a number of miniatures from past monthly releases as a sample of the minis I have avaialble.  There are 13 miniatures in the pack plus a bundle of flagstone textured bases.

There are 2 versions of Lilly - one with a plush mascot on her hip and one without.

"Quickly now, quickly bring him in and lay him out on the large stone table over there. We don't have much time.”

Navigating the packed room with its books, bottles, and furniture was difficult for the two guards carrying their dead comrade between them made more complicated as they didn't like to look at his horrific wound where the Barghest had ripped out his life.

“Hold him down”, the noble lady ordered, for one so slight she had a commanding presence which they obeyed immediately. "I don't think we will have much joy with butterflies and moths to heal this wound; we are going to need something more", she muttered to herself, now seeing the true extent of the damage.

Having long studied magic learning many of its secrets, and harnessing its power Lilly was a potent user, a manipulator of the element of water. Although trained in the art of offensive magic, her preference was as a healer, where she channelled her understanding into this potent gift. What was now before her would test her skills to their very limits. To find out what she needed to know, her only option was to resurrect this dead guard, which would mean channelling an esper crystal, one containing a phoenix soul.

Lily gently lifted the purple stone from its usual resting place. As she touched it, the surface burst into life. It seemed it know what was expected from it.  Closing her eyes, she began to channel the power of the stone into herself. As she did, tendrils of what looked like purple flame entered her body, and in the same way, as the stone had begun to glow, so did she. After what seemed like an age to the guards holding the patient, which was indeed only seconds, Lilly placed her hand over the dead man's wound. As she did, the purple energy rushed out of her body, through her hand and into the lifeless man.

Almost immediately, the body on the table convulsed and began to strain against its captives. "Hold him, hold him tight. His dead body is once again filling with life which will bring it and his mind, confusion."  The guards held their comrade down and watched in awe as his terrible wound healed and the colour drained back into his face. Helping the once dead man sit, all three guards eyed Lilly with a mix of awe and fear, made all the more uncomfortable when she asked in a voice like ice, "Where is Cedric?"

There are 2 variations of Abel, with and without helmet.

"Abel, Abel, where are you?" called Lilly. She was in a hurry, running in the direction of the practice area. Alerting a practising member of the Order of the Dragon to her presence as early as possible was a sensible idea.

Captain Abel had a reputation amongst the Kingsguard due to his elven agility. He was a swift and cunning fighter that was near impossible to predict in a fight! Years of practice brought with it deadly skill and control. He could sometimes lose himself in the dance of death, and Lilly wanted to make sure she didn't surprise him.

Lilly needn't have been worried. The captain stood still as a statue as she entered the training hall. The exertion of his practice was plain for all to see as sweat glistened and clung to his torso. He was not out of breath.

"What is it, Princess?"

Although friends for years, this wasn't the only reason Abel was so willing to help Lilly. He loved her…was in love with her. It still hurt every day that she had chosen Cedric over him; however, he was at her disposal out of duty. Cedric was his best friend, and if in danger, he needed his help.

Friends since their youth, Able was always getting the pair into trouble due to his recklessness. Over the years, the two had fought side by side during many battles. Their awareness of each other forged over many years had saved their life so many times.  Who was the better fighter? Abel had bested Cedric in personal combat, the only man to do so. Even though Cedric claimed he had let his friend beat him, he knew differently.

And now his friend was in trouble.  However, this wasn't the first time, but something in Lilly's voice told him it was serious, and because of this, Abel was ready. It didn't take him long to arm himself, pulling on his drake mantel and grabbing his spear, which he had leaned against the wall as he heard Lilly approach. He was ready.

The experience of his induction into the Order of The Dragon had granted Abel unrivalled knowledge of Drakespine Mountains among the people of Talarius. Lilly had informed him Cedric was last seen following the Barghest in that direction, something he could quickly confirm using his ability as a tracker.  It hadn't tested his skills. The tracks left by both had been plain to see.

Now, standing on the broken ice bridge, he could see the struggle that had taken place and where both combatants had fallen.  If Cedric was alive, he now had a good idea where he would be.

Arriving at the gates of the mountain monastery, Abel had first discovered this place during his trial. When starving close to death, they had taken him out of the fierce snowstorm. It was the only way he had survived his challenge. He struck the giant bell at the entrance with its hammer to announce his presence. He didn't have to wait long. The monastery gates of the order of the golden lotus opened silently, and Grand Master Kang confronted him. "He is here."

This set contains 2 models of the Twin court mages - Pandi and Portia.

Sidney was in the one place above all others he would rather be, his workshop.  Troublemakers would argue that his favourite place was one of the many taverns around Oakesgate, but Sidney would quickly interject that these were the best places to foster ideas as good beer loosens the brain!  Included among the best ideas that he'd had, during lubrication, was the airship, a concept cooked up with Abel during one of their infamous drinking sessions.  Initially, the idea of airships had sounded ludicrous. However, people had once again underestimated Sidney's superior skill and technical genius.  Mixed in with him being bloody-minded, he had used all his ability to create a craft that was both fast and agile.  Today though, the one he was currently surveying needed "tweaking", and he had put aside the morning to do just this.

"And for tweaking, there is nothing better than my favourite wrench,' He muttered to himself as he reached out to pick it up from where he had just put it down.  But the wrench wasn't there.  Turning to look this time instead of just patting with just his hand, Sidney couldn't see it anywhere.  "Where has that gone? I've only just put it down, and now I can't find it. This is ridiculous!" he grumbled.   In a fit of rage, the old dwarf starts to bang and crash around like a bad-tempered old bear, first lifting one thing and then another, culminating in him rummaging through his workbench for the now missing tool.

Above this din, a child's giggle can be heard from the balcony above. Looking up to where the sound came from, floating just above his head, is his missing wrench.  Each time the old dwarf jumps to try and grab it, the wrench floats that little bit higher making him rage and shout, causing more and more joy for the pranksters.  Laughing so hard, two young children identical in age spill out from behind a curtain. The sight of the dwarf trying to propel himself into the air and missing his target proving to be just too much for them.

Spying the twins as the ones behind yet another prank at his expense, Sidney immediately knew what to do. "Lilly, Lilly, the twins are causing trouble again!" he boomed, laughing out loud at the same time.  "That's not fair, Little Uncle calling for Lilly's help", the twins knew how tough she could be.  Lilly was the person who they called upon to put out actual fires caused by the Twins during their frequent temper tantrums.  With the threat of Lilly approaching, the twins were off scampering away, looking for their next victim.

Sidney knew the twins were just children playing pranks, and usually, he would be encouraged to join in, but today he wanted to finish what he had started with the airship.  Musing to himself, sharing a sense of humour with King Garamond, who was just as bad as they were for playing pranks, was why they got away with so much.  That and the fact they were still just children. Children, he thought, shaking his head, the most potent fire mages in the kingdom are just two younglings.  Each twin could amplify the ability of the other to furious and frightening heights! And being so young, Sidney was as protective of them as if they were his own.

These are the horse mounts for the Kingdom of Talarius mounted units - Kingsguard heavy Cavalry, Light cavalry and Outriders

This set contains 2 versions of Lydia the Therion Caller model. One with a plush mascot on her hip and one without.

Each time she allowed the voices to rise inside her head, Lydia was transported back to her childhood. Always there, the whispers in the wind and the murmurings.  There was no hiding from them.  They were so loud during the hours of darkness.  Being a young girl, she told her playmates, who told their parents who talked and eventually the entire village concluded she was cursed and stopped their children playing with her.  Now left alone, she listened more to the voices, growing ever louder and louder.

At the age of eight, her family came to the Oakesgate for the Festival of Light.  A popular celebration in the Talarian calendar where  the streets are line with lanterns, street vendors pedal sweet and savoury treats and fireworks are set off to celebrate the Godess of light. Because of this, the city was packed tightly with revellers.  Was it the claustrophobic feeling caused by the bodies around her or the choir of voices inside her head, so loud and so numerous, that caused her to break down in the street? Of this, Lydia did not know.  All she remembers of that day was the fire that exploded in her brain. As uncontrollable tears poured from her eyes, an angel appeared, soothing her, quietening the voices and speaking to her, helping her.

That angel was Lilly, who used her magic to soothe the crying child, and when told the reason for the episode, the archmage believed that the young girl was one known as a caller and resolved herself to help. 

Lydia was enrolled into the college of magic, and her family were moved to the capital by order of the King. With Lilly's help, and with guidance from Grand High Mage Toller, she learned to silence the voices inside her head and ultimately to command those around her.  Lilly also discovered that Lydia had a particularly rare talent and was able to speak directly to the souls contained within Esper crystals and can call them into a physical form if needed. 

Many callers can summon smaller creatures like wolves, goblins, drakes and sometimes even humanoids, ogres and trolls.  But Lydia is exceptional.  She has a true gift and can speak to the Therions, mighty creatures of legend whose souls are so powerful as to be responsible for maintaining the continent afloat.  She has a particular fondness for the Mist Dragon and her friend Ifrit, with whom she spends most of her free time.

This set contains one Female Water Mage and one Male Fire Mage. 

Edillion is a world rife with Magic in many forms.  Academics and engineers  have long studied magic and have learnt some secrets to harness its power.  It is used in every day life to provide power to machines, provide illumination and all manner of mundane uses.  They have also found ways to harness the power of magic in a weaponised form.  This is often done using machines to launch magical projectiles or create a magical explosion of sorts.  Through the use of Esper stones (crystals containing the souls of creatures) the magic can be elementally attuned to the element of the creature whose soul is contained within.  A little salamander may provide enough magical fire energy to power a cooking appliance or a fire lighter, but with a stone containing the soul of a mighty red dragon – you could provide warmth and power cooking facilities for an entire city!

Harnessing the souls into the Esper stones takes a special kind of individual to do, requiring them to be present a the time of death of the creature whilst performing an enchantment to contain the soul.  This is a skill learned from the ancient elves who were custodians over the Life tree, through whose roots all souls pass once departed.  The souls are sometimes recycled to be born anew and other times are lost to the void.  those that were beginning to be lost were cultivated by the Elves and stored in crystals until they could be used in a respectful way.

There are also those that are innately attuned to magic and through their natural ability and elemental affinity can harness magical power using their own body as a conduit.  As with most creatures, these “sorcerers” have only a single element to which they are attuned.  It is possible to retrain to another element with strenuous study, although it is almost unheard of to be able to control multiple elements at once. 

There are also gifted individuals that can speak to the souls contained within the Esper Crystals and summon them into physical form for a short period of time.

Garmond decreed that all citizens over the age of 18 must go through mandatory military training and a period of 5 years military service.  During a 6 week basic training period, all soldiers are assessed to determine their key proficiencies and where they can best serve. 

Those showing an aptitude for ranged weapons are initially drafted into the yeomen and spend their time at the target range practicing with their long bows. 

Those that show an aptitude for Melee combat (or even just no real aptitude at all!) are usually enrolled in the Light Infantry as men at arms.  Then there are those that occasionally appear that have something a little more special to offer...

Once their period of mandatory service was over, the citizens of Talarius are given 2 options – return to their home lives and continue with their family trades whilst continuing to maintain their combat training (albeit in a less active manner) and remaining on standby in case of a national emergency; or continue their service as professional soldiers.  A large number obviously are always desperate to get out of harms way and return to civilian life, raise a family and so on.

Those that choose to remain have a number of paths open to them.  There are officer roles commanding units, detachments or even legions.  There are specilaised roles within the Light Infantry and Light Cavalry that require someone with both grit and experience.  And then there are the Knightly orders that will always be on the lookout for talented individuals

Feeling there was an opportunity needed to create a tactical advantage in a battle, Abel began searching for ways that he could strike hard and fast at the enemy where they least expected it.  King Garmond agreed, and Abel was granted a small unit of loyal Kingsguard that he hand picked for their tenacity and fearlessness.

It was during a drinking session with Chief Engineer Sidney that Abel had a moment of inspiration – those air ships! They were fast and agile thanks to Cid’s sheer technical genius! The enemy would expect a frontal attack, they may even be somewhat prepared to deal with flanking and rear attacks, but could they possibly expect an attack from the air?! They set to developing their shock tactics, training and refining them until they had them perfected. They favoured heavy bladed polearms such as spears and lances and would leap from the deck of the airships to descend on their enemies from above, using their own velocity and fiercely sharp spears to turn themselves into living projectiles! It is a dangerous tactic as if they were to miss their target their chance of surviving the impact was low, but if they hit their target after reaching terminal velocity, they could skewer even the toughest and most heavily armoured targets!

From within the depths of the enemy ranks, these elite and agile soldiers are able to sow panic and dissent amongst the enemy ranks before leaping from combat to strike another target. Their fearlessness and ferocity, as well as their Captain’s love and fascination with dragons earned them the name “The Order of the Dragon”.

Only the most fearless of soldiers are permitted entry to join the Order of the Dragon, and even then only after they have completed their induction ritual. They are sent into the Drakespine mountains armed with nothing but a spear and must hunt and slay a wind drake and capture its essence in an Esper Crystal. The pelt of the slain beast is worn as a mantle to both as a public display of their prowess, but also to remind them what it takes to be part of the regiment.

Those that choose to remain have a number of paths open to them.  There are officer roles commanding units, detachments or even legions.  There are specialised roles within the Light Infantry and Light Cavalry that require someone with both grit and experience.  And then there are the Knightly orders that will always be on the lookout for talented individuals"

This set contains 4 Heavily Armoured Order of the Behemoth Ogre Berserkers with dual cleavers.

Talarius is a melting pot of races, with Humans, Orcs, Elves, Demonkin and catfolk all commonplace. Dwarves are less common but are seen occasionally, and then there are Ogres. Ogres are not monsters, but are enormous sentient humanoid creatures. They are not known for having the sharpest of intellects, but what they lack in brains they make up for in strength. In civilian life you will find Ogres working as doormen in taverns, labouring at the forges and on farms, and assisting in warehouse operations. They are commonly recruited as mercenaries because they are simply a fearsome sight on the battlefield and few people will want to stand toe to toe with even a single one of them!

Ogres are drafted into the military service like any other citizen of Talarius, and those that choose to remain on as professional soldiers often have developed a love of a good fight. Civilian life will almost certainly lead to disastrous consequences for them, but King Garmond saw another way to make good use and also keep them out of trouble. He spoke at length to Artun of Fer’air, one of the first Ogres that had ever been recruited into the Kingsguard. This of course meant he was incredibly disciplined and loyal, but more than that, Artun was particularly intelligent for an Ogre and had a keen mind for tactics. Garmond asked Artun to take these combat enthusiastic Ogres under his wing and instill in them discipline, learn about their abilities and design some special tactics that would make the best possible use of them.

Artun took 5 of these Ogres from their mandatory service and took them out beyond the Drakespine mountain range and onto the Plains. They disappeared for 3 years.

One day there was uproar in Oakesgate! Garmond looked out of the window of the palace and saw civilians running around the streets screaming. The screams suddenly stopped and turned to cheering. What was going on?! Garmond took a detachment of Kingsguard with him and rode out into town. In the town square, they were greeted by a group of feral looking ogres accompanied by a massive Behemoth! The horned and spined creature was immense in its size and strength and terrifying to behold, but amazingly it stood there calmly and did not appear to be a threat.   Artun and his retinue had returned.

Artun greeted Garmond and explained to him that this Behemoth was him, and he was it. It had been his tactical inspiration. When he had first seen the magnificent creature, it had been attacked by a hoard of feral goblins and trolls that had tried collectively to bring it down. It had charged at them using its massive horns to rend the unfortunate creatures in its path. It had swiped out with its huge limbs and spike tail and wiped out scores of goblins, and even in the face of overwhelming numbers had refused to go on the defensive and had instead relied on its enormous mass and had gone into a wild rage, attacking relentlessly. Seeing the total obliteration of their kin, the remaining trolls and kobolds had simply scattered and run away.

The Ogres adopted this combat technique and sought out challenges to refine it. The best Defence was a berserk Offence! Let the attackers in and then show them true might and fury!

When they finally approached the Behemoth, there was no fear, there was no apprehension and there was no aggression on either side. The Ogres and the behemoth were on the same level and the behemoth understood Artun implicitly. They had created a soul bond - a magical connection where both spirits were united and each is spiritually a part of the other. From this moment on, Garmond named Artun and his Ogre Berserkers the Order of the Behemoth. Of course first on his list to do was to visit the smithy and get them fitted out with some strong armour! if they weren’t going to practice defence, Garmond still wanted his soldiers protected!!

"Almost there..."

Looking down at the scar on his right hand just behind the thumb, it ached with phantom pain from a long-ago memory. He rubs his beard while recounting the memory of the incident from his youth. "Grey. When did it become so grey?" he chuckles to himself. Up ahead, the sun breaks through the trees casting rays of golden glow on the trail ahead. One foot in front of the other, he emerges from the tree line to an open field of farmland with a beaten path running through it.

"Not too far now." He whispers to himself. He notices the weight of his pack and adjusts the strap over his shoulder as he takes a quick drink from his waterskin. Step leads to step he trudged on, with his head down. With the future weighing heavy on his mind, lost in thought, he is stopped abruptly by a loud shout. "HALT! State your name and business."

Had he arrived already? It seemed like only a moment since the woods. Before him stands the majestic city walls of Oakesgate, the grand capital of Talarius. He looks at the guards, slightly puzzled and steps forward.

"I SAID HALT!" The tip of a spear pointed directly at his nose, inches away from his face. The guard holding the spear is young, twenty years of age at best. He knows he could disarm the guard in a heartbeat, but that would make the youth look a fool. He chooses diplomacy instead. "Young man," He says calmly ", Is this how you greet your king?"

As the nation teetered on the brink of utter chaos, out of nowhere, a lone man arrived in Oakesgate, the kingdom's capital city, announcing himself as King, taking the crown and sitting atop the throne.

The man had an air of power and an aura that commanded respect from those around him. Despite his arrival, rioting broke out in the streets as the gang and guilds' heads refused to acknowledge him and attempted to remove this false King.

Over the weeks that followed, Garmond personally thwarted many assassination attempts, each time offering the assailant a chance to repent and serve him. His prowess in dealing with these attackers and his noble and merciful ways won him the respect of the Talarian Military leaders, who chose to pledge loyalty to him.

The first to swear allegiance were the elite Order of the Black Wing. Commanded by the legendary Dark Knight, these elite knights fought both on foot and mounted and utilised the wondrous Talarian Air Ships that make up the Black Wing Armada. In the absence of the Dark Knight. King Garmond appointed the Black Wing as his bodyguard, recolouring their armour from the traditional Dark Blue and gold to his own preferred green and gold, creating the "Kingsguard".

The Kingsguard consists of several separate units, each with a focused combat speciality. The Shield Guard, led by Captain Callan, specialise in close combat and melee defence and are often found at the side of the King himself. They have perfected defensive tactics, protecting their ruler with their own lives if needed.   

The Glaive Guard, led by Captain Zahurd, are deployed as palace guards armed with large ornamental runic Glaives. Due to their rigorous martial training, they wield this weapon to devastating effect. When formed upon the battlefield, the Glaive Guard are a tight fighting force that can keep the enemy out of arms reach. It is not unknown for them to deploy behind the Shield guard fighting through the shield wall. 

The Greatswords, led by Captain Amara, wield massive two-handed rune blades, which only the very strongest of the Kingsguard recruits can learn, enabling them to join the ranks. However, their strength and stamina are legendary, and despite their weapon of choice, the enemy is likely to tire long before the Greatswords do. 

Last but not least, there is the Kingsguard Cavalry, led by Captain Gul'dar. All the Kingsguard have animal companions who live in an enormous stable complex adjoining the Oakesgate Barracks. As the creatures are born, each warrior is allocated one as their mount. They hand rear this new animal companion from a baby creating a special bond. 

The sidearm of choice for the Kingsguard is the Falcata, a broad-bladed short sword perfect for chopping and capable of cleaving an opponent in two. Wielded by the skilled Kingsguard warriors, these blades are most deadly.

"Get down, you maniac!" Sidney shouted up at Abel as the warrior stood on the ramparts of the city wall high above him.  The Captain of the Order of the Dragon was standing statuesque, focused with his giant spear in hand.  What had started as a heated drunken discussion turned argument last night had escalated into a live demonstration today.

It all seemed so clear in Abel's head. The enemy would expect a frontal attack. They may even be somewhat prepared to deal with flanking and rear attacks, but could they possibly expect an attack from the air? This theory is what he had proposed to the diminutive engineer who accused him of just being suicidal.  "No way can anyone, let alone you, jump from such a height and land with great accuracy to spear an opponent. Then there is the question of injuring yourself in the process. It's a suicide mission, I tell you!"

However, with the practice dummy no more than 12 feet away from where the dwarf stood, he proceeded to witness the man at the top of the castle jump and descend by the most direct route possible, perfectly skewering the target right through the head.  Abel rose to his feet unscathed, "see?".

"Oh, my, oh my, oh my, my boy, you weren't kidding. That was amazing, probably one of the most amazing things I have seen in all my days," and the old dwarf wasn't kidding. "I should have believed you last night; however, you have convinced me, right here and now!  I'll make you your cruiser. Let's take this conversation to my workshop I feel there is no time to waste!"

So from a drunken night at the tavern and a potential reckless demonstration, the Talarian Airship was conceived. These airships levitate and fly using grav engines designed by Sidney, which keep these battle barges in the air.  Powered by the Esper crystals containing the souls of creatures with a strong affinity to the air element.  This is the key to making everything function, enabling these agile ships to deliver their deadly payload into the heart of the enemy.

As the dwarf constructed, Abel had only one task set him by the engineer. He needed to hunt the wind drakes to capture their souls, for this is what's inside the crystals.  This task quickly became the right of passage, the initiation ceremony into the Order of the Dragon.  It serves two purposes, supplying Sidney with the means to power his airships and proving that the warriors are the correct ones to ride in them.

His pursuit of the Barghest led him to the Drakespine mountains. Hunting his prey amidst a landscape of ice and snow he found had its own unique set of challenges. Finally, he cornered the beast upon a natural ice bridge, where it fought ferociously as only a wounded predator can.  Eventually, Cedric gained the upper hand, raising his sword to strike the fatal blow triumph turned to shock in his lungs as his enemy struck down, breaking the ice at their feet, sending both fighters tumbling into the darkness below. 

Somehow, he was still alive, but the Barghest was nowhere to be seen. Regaining his feet with a head pounding, the darkness within him driving a hunt, which consumes him for two additional days.  

And now, the power to wield darkness that had been such a boon to him feels tainted. The inherent evil was beginning to consume him. The darkness itself was not evil, he knew - it was true that there could be no light without darkness, as these two forces were two halves of the same whole.  Despite this knowledge, Cedric felt emotionally trapped. His blackened armour covered with intricate carvings of demons had saved him so many times, but now it felt like a cage – the heaviest of cages. Once the extension of his being, his sword that he used to amplify his inner darkness and channel it into mighty blows was now a burden to him, weighing him down with every step. He could not go on like this.    

The Barghest's dried blood had soaked his cloak and armour, seeping into his clothing beneath the metal. The icy winds on the Drakespine left him frozen to his core. Every step was laboured, and each slower and shorter than the last. The battle had left him injured and aching, and now that the adrenaline rush had passed, he felt every laceration, every bruise and broken bone. Would the elements finally take him? Was this the end?  

"Should I die this night, I do so happily in the knowledge that my King has been avenged, and a great evil is no more." With this thought, his consciousness faded, and with it, the cold and pain ceased to matter.  

As his eyelids closed, he saw a vision of a shadowy figure standing over him. A dragon? Then this indeed was the end.

"Ah, we have been waiting for you, Abel. Now we can begin in earnest!"

The Grand Master led the way through the Dragon Gate and into the temple compound where the snow fell, laying its powdery white carpet.  Kang had been at the order's temple monastery in the Drakespine since he was a child.  An affinity with earth magic resulted in a journey to the temple where he was offered to the monks, as is tradition.  Through the many years of training, he demonstrated both great skill and patience and an expert mastery over the element of earth.  When it became time for the old Grand Master to stand down, Kang was uncontested to take his place and unanimously welcomed by his fellow monks.

Incredulously inside, situated at all corners and growing out from the stone floor, were trees full of spring's pink cherry blossom. The juxtaposition of the pink blossom falling on the white snow was both beautiful and alien to Abel's senses.

Here in this compound, the Order of the Golden Lotus trained a minimum of three times a day, often more. Abel looked behind him as he heard the large entrance gate clang shut, "there is no point in thinking of leaving now. After today's snowfall, the gate will not open again until spring." 

"What, wait!" Abel cried, "you mean I am trapped here until then?"

"We are all trapped here until the snow breaks and thaws, you, me and Cedric. We must use this time wisely to help your friend."

Kang pointed across the courtyard with a long, precise finger at the man Abel had known most of his life. He was relieved to see his friend alive. Drawing closer Abel could see the conflict written all over Cedric's face as though he was wrestling demons of his own.  

"Gentlemen, you are required to attend each of my classes, including after-class training, you will partner with each other.  In addition, you are expected to complete duties to contribute to the upkeep of the monastery. Your lives will be difficult, both physically and mentally, but the efforts that each of you puts in will be matched by the rewards you will gain. This is the traditional way of our order, and you have an excellent opportunity to learn by immersion in an environment that fosters this learning."

"Your first lesson starts now, follow my form, copy my moves." The master began to weave a complex pattern in front of both men, his hands and feet moving together, blocking, kicking and punching.  When both men could imitate Kang's movements, he turned the men to face one another. "The kata I have taught you underpins everything we teach here, and you will both practise it every day. I have introduced you to how we attack and defend against an opponent simultaneously, and you will practice this. To my count, 1...2...3...4...5...and back to start again."

"Move, strike, throw, get up, reset, go. We are training without thought, without thinking and without feeling. Turn, repeat, move and strike."

"We must remove the darkness inside you, Cedric...2...3...4...You can not be driven by the darkness move out from underneath it."

"Your skills and ability are yours and not the darkness within you. It is using you to deliver what it desires. Strike Cedric down Abel, beat him into submission, make his anger rise up and let the darkness consume him. 1...2...3...4..and back to start again.  Let us bring him to the light."

As the master of the temple counted out the timings through his physical form interjected with his wisdom, his chanting meditation projected his astral form onto the transdimensional plane as he needed to seek further advice from the Dragon King.

All the while, the snow continued to fall in the courtyard laying its powdery white carpet.

"Cedric’s eyes opened slowly, his vision blurred.  He blinked a few times and rubbed his eyes, and as his focus returned to him, he realised he was in a simple but warm and inviting building.  His last memory had been of falling through the glacier – he had thought himself dead, though evidently he had (thankfully) been wrong. 

A soft voice came from across the room “Ah, he is awake!  Quick, fetch Master Kang and inform him our guest is awake”

A man walked across the room to meet him.  He was an elf, with his hair tied up on top of his head.  He was wearing a dark blue robe with golden yellow coloured garments visible beneath the robes.  The prayer beads he wore in abundance on his person let Cedric know he was in the presence of one of the Warrior Monks of the Order of the Golden Lotus.  He had met many monks in his years living in Oakesgate, where they frequently visited the markets to stock up on provisions.  It was well known that they lived in isolation in the Drakespine Mountains in their fortified monastery.  Is this where he was now?  Had the Monks rescued him from certain death?

“Did you bring me here?” He attempted to sit up and pain wracked his body – clearly he had not escaped his fall unscathed!

The Monk jumped to his aid immediately, helping Cedric to sit up on the edge of his bed.  “You were left at the gate of our monastery sir.  We had thought you near death, but it would seem the Dragon King Bahamut smiles upon you as you not only continue to draw breath, but have now regained your consciousness”.

“How long have I been here?” asked Cedric

“You arrived here 3 days ago”.

“Who brought me here?  My last memory was falling from the Ice bridge on the Glacier”

“That is some miles from here.  Clearly someone must have found you and helped you here, but it was not one of our own.”

“Thank you for providing me aid and for saving my life good sir” Cedric said finally.  Then he sat and pondered for a few minutes.  The Barghest he had fought would have killed him if it had too survived the fall, and it was the only other living being up there with him to his knowledge.  Who had Saved his life? 

Then he remembered, his fading vision….the Dragon!"

"Master Kang, I have a question for you," asked Abel, "who is the man they call Kotaro?". "They say he was once a monk here at the monastery of the Order of the Golden Lotus, is this true?".

"What you say is true, he was once part of our order, but unfortunately, he was unable to control his temper. As a result, he killed four monks during a training incident, and for this, he was banished from the monastery."

Unbeknown to Kang, that is not the whole truth of what transpired. The monk known as Kotaro was chosen to receive the Mark of the Dragon. With this action, the great Bahamut informed him of an assassination plot to kill the Grand Master and betray the location of the Dragon King to a rival nation.  Slaying the Dragon protector of Talarius would weaken the Kingdom and open them up for an invasion.

Bahamut chose Kotaro to identify the assassins and end their plotting. However, whilst executing his orders, the massacre witnessed by the other initiates left them feeling uneasy in his presence, resulting in him having to leave the order.     

Kotaro's actual name isn't known. He arrived in Talarius a little while after Garmond, immediately pledging his loyalty and services to the new King.   Even though Kotaro is a solitary character, wherever the King appears, he is never too far away, although whether you can see him or not is another matter.   He is the sworn protector of the Dragon.

"Once the most exalted mage in all of Talarius, Toller was often the last line of defence against the kingdom's enemies.   He often drove back the hordes, the last bastion  breaking wave after wave until that fateful day.  On that day, he pushed his powers too far, overstretching his capabilities, scrambling his mind as a consequence.

Now the kingdom's most potent mage appears to many as a muddled old man, and although he still has a vast mental library of spells that he can recount and use.  he can't remember what they all do and, more often than not, uses the wrong magic for the job.  Even now, King Garmond respects him and values his council but is aware that he is potentially a dangerous liability with all the power he still possesses.  

To that end, Garmond has created the Talarian College of Magic to ensure proper training for mages maintaining their magical might and provide a team of "fixers" in case Toller's magic glitches and causes problems. 

So far, Toller has kept its members very busy insisting on using magic for everything, warming his tea, sweeping his study, fetching his books. All of which has resulted in minor magical mishaps such as turning his broom into a lizard and setting fire to the curtains.  Lately, his main area of study has been focused on regaining his memory and with that control of his magic.   The King desperately wants him back on form and he has dedicated a team of magical researchers to help him.  The young Therion Caller Lydia is proving to be instrumental in this research, gaining valuable insight from the powerful beings at her disposal.

But today it was the twins who are visiting 'Grandad Toller' as they had affectionately named him, he always had the most outrageous stories, he was always very kind to them and most of all because he had a massive stash of the best biscuits!"

"The Kingsguard in themselves are a small but elite army, and no army would be complete without some ranged support. 

There are then Kingsguard missile detachments, employing the Kingdom’s advanced engineering technology courtesy of Chief Engineer Sidney, using Esper Crystal powered projectile weapons, as well as more low tech but still powerful and accurate crossbows. 

From these numbers, a small elite join the Ranger Corps and are known as Outriders.  They patrol the borders of the Kingdom and keep the citizens safe from raiders and also bestial and monstrous threats.  They also ride Rokobos and are often out for weeks at a time.  they are revered as some of the most heroic of the Kingsguard and only those proven in battle are awarded this honour.

Once the Kingsguards had been established, Garamond’s next order of business was to ensure his Kingdom had a standing military and a disciplined people so that in the event of any of his neighbours making an attempt to take his Kingdom, the people were able to defend themselves."

As the nation teetered on the brink of utter chaos, out of nowhere, a lone man arrived in Oakesgate, the kingdom's capital city, announcing himself as King, taking the crown and sitting atop the throne.

The man had an air of power and an aura that commanded respect from those around him. Despite his arrival, rioting broke out in the streets as the gang and guilds' heads refused to acknowledge him and attempted to remove this false King.

Over the weeks that followed, Garmond personally thwarted many assassination attempts, each time offering the assailant a chance to repent and serve him. His prowess in dealing with these attackers and his noble and merciful ways won him the respect of the Talarian Military leaders, who chose to pledge loyalty to him.

The first to swear allegiance were the elite Order of the Black Wing. Commanded by the legendary Dark Knight, these elite knights fought both on foot and mounted and utilised the wondrous Talarian Air Ships that make up the Black Wing Armada. In the absence of the Dark Knight. King Garmond appointed the Black Wing as his bodyguard, recolouring their armour from the traditional Dark Blue and gold to his own preferred green and gold, creating the "Kingsguard".

The Kingsguard consists of several separate units, each with a focused combat speciality. The Shield Guard, led by Captain Callan, specialise in close combat and melee defence and are often found at the side of the King himself. They have perfected defensive tactics, protecting their ruler with their own lives if needed.   

The Glaive Guard, led by Captain Zahurd, are deployed as palace guards armed with large ornamental runic Glaives. Due to their rigorous martial training, they wield this weapon to devastating effect. When formed upon the battlefield, the Glaive Guard are a tight fighting force that can keep the enemy out of arms reach. It is not unknown for them to deploy behind the Shield guard fighting through the shield wall. 

The Greatswords, led by Captain Amara, wield massive two-handed rune blades, which only the very strongest of the Kingsguard recruits can learn, enabling them to join the ranks. However, their strength and stamina are legendary, and despite their weapon of choice, the enemy is likely to tire long before the Greatswords do. 

Last but not least, there is the Kingsguard Cavalry, led by Captain Gul'dar. All the Kingsguard have animal companions who live in an enormous stable complex adjoining the Oakesgate Barracks. As the creatures are born, each warrior is allocated one as their mount. They hand rear this new animal companion from a baby creating a special bond. 

The sidearm of choice for the Kingsguard is the Falcata, a broad-bladed short sword perfect for chopping and capable of cleaving an opponent in two. Wielded by the skilled Kingsguard warriors, these blades are most deadly.

The pack contains a number of miniatures from past monthly releases as a sample of the minis I have avaialble.  There are 13 miniatures in the pack plus a bundle of flagstone textured bases.

The Therion Ifrit is a large model, around 120mm tall.  He has been sculpted and posed to print as a single piece on a 5.5" build plate with his base separate.  

The truth of our tale was the Barghest was the high lord of a hoard of feral goblins, hobgoblins, bugbears and trolls.  While Cedric spent the Winter with the Order of the Golden Lotus, his enemy had returned, licking his wounds to his mountain home where he first planned and then initiated an offensive at Oakesgate, sat at the foot of the Drakespine mountains.  Barghests feed on the souls of their victims to grow in power. Therefore his plan was a simple one to devour enough souls to be elevated to a demi-god after his assault.   

With the first signs of Spring, the green horde, whipped into an absolute frenzy by their monstrous leader, descended the steep paths out of the uplands, their numbers turning the mountainside green. Then, still groggy with Winter, the warning signals of Oakesgate were sounded slowly, the massive horns first initiating the alarm followed by the lighting of substantial signal fires indicating for its people outside to come to the city to seek protection inside its walls. 

The goblins mindlessly cut their way through the border villages and smaller towns, killing all those before them who react too slowly to the warnings.  With only small garrisons of the Talarian army located outside the city gates, the Talarians initially suffers hefty losses as they found themselves underprepared for the onslaught.  

Eventually, in time, the entire army mustered on the field of battle to launch a counter attack against the  goblin horde.  The goblin numbers are massive, outnumbering the Talarian force vastly.  With a concern of becoming overwhelmed, Lydia steps up with a small detachment of Kingsguard to defend her.  Bowing her head, she begins to chant.   At first, a runic circle of red light appears on the ground around her feet, beams of light shooting up around her, magical runes forming in the light, changing shape and then disappearing.   The ground in front of her feet begins to crack.  the crack spreads out rapidly toward the oncoming horde and magma starts to pour out of the crack.  Suddenly, the ground erupts, and a fountain of molten fire engulfs the closest goblins.  From out of the centre of the explosion, a giant creature forms into the mighty Therion, Ifrit the Lord of Fire!

Straight away, the Therion's flaming claws are swiping at the goblins, incinerating them with its touch alone, sending their burning bodies flying this way and that into their ranks.  Ifrit smashes them, throws them, eats a few and ultimately leaps into the air, creating a giant fireball in his hands, hurling it into the centre of the goblin mass. 

Realising the summoner is behind the fire demons appearance, a unit of goblins make a beeline for her, driving through the enemy, determined to reach their target.  Physically drained by summoning the mighty Therion, Lydia first begins to sway on her feet and then begins to lose consciousness.  As this happens, two guards catch her carrying the exhausted caller to safety whilst her Shield Guard using instinct alone, formed a wall of shields in front of her to enable her an unhindered retreat.   With the rest of her bodyguard closing in to receive their attackers, the goblins realise their brave assault is now futile and flee.  As her consciousness fades, the power keeping Ifrit on the mortal plane wanes and the link is severed, sending the Theriion back to his home on the aether plane. But not before the almighty Fire Lord has caused enough damage to the enemy to turn the tide of the battle.

Battered and beaten by the Talarians, with their numbers beginning to break, the goblins are sent scuttling back to the mountains.  The Ranger Corps set up stationed watch towers all across the Drakespine to ensure that they receive sufficient warning of a significant surprise attack in the future.  The reason for this? Unfortunately for the victors, the Barghest survived the battle, strategically withdrawing from the conflict to fight another day.

"Quickly now, quickly bring him in and lay him out on the large stone table over there. We don't have much time.”

Navigating the packed room with its books, bottles, and furniture was difficult for the two guards carrying their dead comrade between them made more complicated as they didn't like to look at his horrific wound where the Barghest had ripped out his life.

“Hold him down”, the noble lady ordered, for one so slight she had a commanding presence which they obeyed immediately. "I don't think we will have much joy with butterflies and moths to heal this wound; we are going to need something more", she muttered to herself, now seeing the true extent of the damage.

Having long studied magic learning many of its secrets, and harnessing its power Lilly was a potent user, a manipulator of the element of water. Although trained in the art of offensive magic, her preference was as a healer, where she channelled her understanding into this potent gift. What was now before her would test her skills to their very limits. To find out what she needed to know, her only option was to resurrect this dead guard, which would mean channelling an esper crystal, one containing a phoenix soul.

Lily gently lifted the purple stone from its usual resting place. As she touched it, the surface burst into life. It seemed it know what was expected from it.  Closing her eyes, she began to channel the power of the stone into herself. As she did, tendrils of what looked like purple flame entered her body, and in the same way, as the stone had begun to glow, so did she. After what seemed like an age to the guards holding the patient, which was indeed only seconds, Lilly placed her hand over the dead man's wound. As she did, the purple energy rushed out of her body, through her hand and into the lifeless man.

Almost immediately, the body on the table convulsed and began to strain against its captives. "Hold him, hold him tight. His dead body is once again filling with life which will bring it and his mind, confusion."  The guards held their comrade down and watched in awe as his terrible wound healed and the colour drained back into his face. Helping the once dead man sit, all three guards eyed Lilly with a mix of awe and fear, made all the more uncomfortable when she asked in a voice like ice, "Where is Cedric?"

There are 2 variations of Abel, with and without helmet.

"Abel, Abel, where are you?" called Lilly. She was in a hurry, running in the direction of the practice area. Alerting a practising member of the Order of the Dragon to her presence as early as possible was a sensible idea.

Captain Abel had a reputation amongst the Kingsguard due to his elven agility. He was a swift and cunning fighter that was near impossible to predict in a fight! Years of practice brought with it deadly skill and control. He could sometimes lose himself in the dance of death, and Lilly wanted to make sure she didn't surprise him.

Lilly needn't have been worried. The captain stood still as a statue as she entered the training hall. The exertion of his practice was plain for all to see as sweat glistened and clung to his torso. He was not out of breath.

"What is it, Princess?"

Although friends for years, this wasn't the only reason Abel was so willing to help Lilly. He loved her…was in love with her. It still hurt every day that she had chosen Cedric over him; however, he was at her disposal out of duty. Cedric was his best friend, and if in danger, he needed his help.

Friends since their youth, Able was always getting the pair into trouble due to his recklessness. Over the years, the two had fought side by side during many battles. Their awareness of each other forged over many years had saved their life so many times.  Who was the better fighter? Abel had bested Cedric in personal combat, the only man to do so. Even though Cedric claimed he had let his friend beat him, he knew differently.

And now his friend was in trouble.  However, this wasn't the first time, but something in Lilly's voice told him it was serious, and because of this, Abel was ready. It didn't take him long to arm himself, pulling on his drake mantel and grabbing his spear, which he had leaned against the wall as he heard Lilly approach. He was ready.

The experience of his induction into the Order of The Dragon had granted Abel unrivalled knowledge of Drakespine Mountains among the people of Talarius. Lilly had informed him Cedric was last seen following the Barghest in that direction, something he could quickly confirm using his ability as a tracker.  It hadn't tested his skills. The tracks left by both had been plain to see.

Now, standing on the broken ice bridge, he could see the struggle that had taken place and where both combatants had fallen.  If Cedric was alive, he now had a good idea where he would be.

Arriving at the gates of the mountain monastery, Abel had first discovered this place during his trial. When starving close to death, they had taken him out of the fierce snowstorm. It was the only way he had survived his challenge. He struck the giant bell at the entrance with its hammer to announce his presence. He didn't have to wait long. The monastery gates of the order of the golden lotus opened silently, and Grand Master Kang confronted him. "He is here."

Sidney was in the one place above all others he would rather be, his workshop.  Troublemakers would argue that his favourite place was one of the many taverns around Oakesgate, but Sidney would quickly interject that these were the best places to foster ideas as good beer loosens the brain!  Included among the best ideas that he'd had, during lubrication, was the airship, a concept cooked up with Abel during one of their infamous drinking sessions.  Initially, the idea of airships had sounded ludicrous. However, people had once again underestimated Sidney's superior skill and technical genius.  Mixed in with him being bloody-minded, he had used all his ability to create a craft that was both fast and agile.  Today though, the one he was currently surveying needed "tweaking", and he had put aside the morning to do just this.

"And for tweaking, there is nothing better than my favourite wrench,' He muttered to himself as he reached out to pick it up from where he had just put it down.  But the wrench wasn't there.  Turning to look this time instead of just patting with just his hand, Sidney couldn't see it anywhere.  "Where has that gone? I've only just put it down, and now I can't find it. This is ridiculous!" he grumbled.   In a fit of rage, the old dwarf starts to bang and crash around like a bad-tempered old bear, first lifting one thing and then another, culminating in him rummaging through his workbench for the now missing tool.

Above this din, a child's giggle can be heard from the balcony above. Looking up to where the sound came from, floating just above his head, is his missing wrench.  Each time the old dwarf jumps to try and grab it, the wrench floats that little bit higher making him rage and shout, causing more and more joy for the pranksters.  Laughing so hard, two young children identical in age spill out from behind a curtain. The sight of the dwarf trying to propel himself into the air and missing his target proving to be just too much for them.

Spying the twins as the ones behind yet another prank at his expense, Sidney immediately knew what to do. "Lilly, Lilly, the twins are causing trouble again!" he boomed, laughing out loud at the same time.  "That's not fair, Little Uncle calling for Lilly's help", the twins knew how tough she could be.  Lilly was the person who they called upon to put out actual fires caused by the Twins during their frequent temper tantrums.  With the threat of Lilly approaching, the twins were off scampering away, looking for their next victim.

Sidney knew the twins were just children playing pranks, and usually, he would be encouraged to join in, but today he wanted to finish what he had started with the airship.  Musing to himself, sharing a sense of humour with King Garamond, who was just as bad as they were for playing pranks, was why they got away with so much.  That and the fact they were still just children. Children, he thought, shaking his head, the most potent fire mages in the kingdom are just two younglings.  Each twin could amplify the ability of the other to furious and frightening heights! And being so young, Sidney was as protective of them as if they were his own.

Each time she allowed the voices to rise inside her head, Lydia was transported back to her childhood. Always there, the whispers in the wind and the murmurings.  There was no hiding from them.  They were so loud during the hours of darkness.  Being a young girl, she told her playmates, who told their parents who talked and eventually the entire village concluded she was cursed and stopped their children playing with her.  Now left alone, she listened more to the voices, growing ever louder and louder.

At the age of eight, her family came to the Oakesgate for the Festival of Light.  A popular celebration in the Talarian calendar where  the streets are line with lanterns, street vendors pedal sweet and savoury treats and fireworks are set off to celebrate the Godess of light. Because of this, the city was packed tightly with revellers.  Was it the claustrophobic feeling caused by the bodies around her or the choir of voices inside her head, so loud and so numerous, that caused her to break down in the street? Of this, Lydia did not know.  All she remembers of that day was the fire that exploded in her brain. As uncontrollable tears poured from her eyes, an angel appeared, soothing her, quietening the voices and speaking to her, helping her.

That angel was Lilly, who used her magic to soothe the crying child, and when told the reason for the episode, the archmage believed that the young girl was one known as a caller and resolved herself to help. 

Lydia was enrolled into the college of magic, and her family were moved to the capital by order of the King. With Lilly's help, and with guidance from Grand High Mage Toller, she learned to silence the voices inside her head and ultimately to command those around her.  Lilly also discovered that Lydia had a particularly rare talent and was able to speak directly to the souls contained within Esper crystals and can call them into a physical form if needed. 

Many callers can summon smaller creatures like wolves, goblins, drakes and sometimes even humanoids, ogres and trolls.  But Lydia is exceptional.  She has a true gift and can speak to the Therions, mighty creatures of legend whose souls are so powerful as to be responsible for maintaining the continent afloat.  She has a particular fondness for the Mist Dragon and her friend Ifrit, with whom she spends most of her free time.

This set contains one Female Water Mage and one Male Fire Mage. 

Edillion is a world rife with Magic in many forms.  Academics and engineers  have long studied magic and have learnt some secrets to harness its power.  It is used in every day life to provide power to machines, provide illumination and all manner of mundane uses.  They have also found ways to harness the power of magic in a weaponised form.  This is often done using machines to launch magical projectiles or create a magical explosion of sorts.  Through the use of Esper stones (crystals containing the souls of creatures) the magic can be elementally attuned to the element of the creature whose soul is contained within.  A little salamander may provide enough magical fire energy to power a cooking appliance or a fire lighter, but with a stone containing the soul of a mighty red dragon – you could provide warmth and power cooking facilities for an entire city!

Harnessing the souls into the Esper stones takes a special kind of individual to do, requiring them to be present a the time of death of the creature whilst performing an enchantment to contain the soul.  This is a skill learned from the ancient elves who were custodians over the Life tree, through whose roots all souls pass once departed.  The souls are sometimes recycled to be born anew and other times are lost to the void.  those that were beginning to be lost were cultivated by the Elves and stored in crystals until they could be used in a respectful way.

There are also those that are innately attuned to magic and through their natural ability and elemental affinity can harness magical power using their own body as a conduit.  As with most creatures, these “sorcerers” have only a single element to which they are attuned.  It is possible to retrain to another element with strenuous study, although it is almost unheard of to be able to control multiple elements at once. 

There are also gifted individuals that can speak to the souls contained within the Esper Crystals and summon them into physical form for a short period of time.

"Once the most exalted mage in all of Talarius, Toller was often the last line of defence against the kingdom's enemies.   He often drove back the hordes, the last bastion  breaking wave after wave until that fateful day.  On that day, he pushed his powers too far, overstretching his capabilities, scrambling his mind as a consequence.

Now the kingdom's most potent mage appears to many as a muddled old man, and although he still has a vast mental library of spells that he can recount and use.  he can't remember what they all do and, more often than not, uses the wrong magic for the job.  Even now, King Garmond respects him and values his council but is aware that he is potentially a dangerous liability with all the power he still possesses.  

To that end, Garmond has created the Talarian College of Magic to ensure proper training for mages maintaining their magical might and provide a team of "fixers" in case Toller's magic glitches and causes problems. 

So far, Toller has kept its members very busy insisting on using magic for everything, warming his tea, sweeping his study, fetching his books. All of which has resulted in minor magical mishaps such as turning his broom into a lizard and setting fire to the curtains.  Lately, his main area of study has been focused on regaining his memory and with that control of his magic.   The King desperately wants him back on form and he has dedicated a team of magical researchers to help him.  The young Therion Caller Lydia is proving to be instrumental in this research, gaining valuable insight from the powerful beings at her disposal.

But today it was the twins who are visiting 'Grandad Toller' as they had affectionately named him, he always had the most outrageous stories, he was always very kind to them and most of all because he had a massive stash of the best biscuits!"

Those showing an aptitude for ranged weapons are initially drafted into the yeomen and spend their time at the target range practicing with their long bows. 

Those that show an aptitude for Melee combat (or even just no real aptitude at all!) are usually enrolled in the Light Infantry as men at arms.  Then there are those that occasionally appear that have something a little more special to offer...

Once their period of mandatory service was over, the citizens of Talarius are given 2 options – return to their home lives and continue with their family trades whilst continuing to maintain their combat training (albeit in a less active manner) and remaining on standby in case of a national emergency; or continue their service as professional soldiers.  A large number obviously are always desperate to get out of harms way and return to civilian life, raise a family and so on.

Those that choose to remain have a number of paths open to them.  There are officer roles commanding units, detachments or even legions.  There are specilaised roles within the Light Infantry and Light Cavalry that require someone with both grit and experience.  And then there are the Knightly orders that will always be on the lookout for talented individuals"

"The Kingsguard in themselves are a small but elite army, and no army would be complete without some ranged support. 

There are then Kingsguard missile detachments, employing the Kingdom’s advanced engineering technology courtesy of Chief Engineer Sidney, using Esper Crystal powered projectile weapons, as well as more low tech but still powerful and accurate crossbows. 

From these numbers, a small elite join the Ranger Corps and are known as Outriders.  They patrol the borders of the Kingdom and keep the citizens safe from raiders and also bestial and monstrous threats.  They also ride Rokobos and are often out for weeks at a time.  they are revered as some of the most heroic of the Kingsguard and only those proven in battle are awarded this honour.

Once the Kingsguards had been established, Garamond’s next order of business was to ensure his Kingdom had a standing military and a disciplined people so that in the event of any of his neighbours making an attempt to take his Kingdom, the people were able to defend themselves."

The man had an air of power and an aura that commanded respect from those around him. Despite his arrival, rioting broke out in the streets as the gang and guilds' heads refused to acknowledge him and attempted to remove this false King.

Over the weeks that followed, Garmond personally thwarted many assassination attempts, each time offering the assailant a chance to repent and serve him. His prowess in dealing with these attackers and his noble and merciful ways won him the respect of the Talarian Military leaders, who chose to pledge loyalty to him.

The first to swear allegiance were the elite Order of the Black Wing. Commanded by the legendary Dark Knight, these elite knights fought both on foot and mounted and utilised the wondrous Talarian Air Ships that make up the Black Wing Armada. In the absence of the Dark Knight. King Garmond appointed the Black Wing as his bodyguard, recolouring their armour from the traditional Dark Blue and gold to his own preferred green and gold, creating the "Kingsguard".

The Kingsguard consists of several separate units, each with a focused combat speciality. The Shield Guard, led by Captain Callan, specialise in close combat and melee defence and are often found at the side of the King himself. They have perfected defensive tactics, protecting their ruler with their own lives if needed.   

The Glaive Guard, led by Captain Zahurd, are deployed as palace guards armed with large ornamental runic Glaives. Due to their rigorous martial training, they wield this weapon to devastating effect. When formed upon the battlefield, the Glaive Guard are a tight fighting force that can keep the enemy out of arms reach. It is not unknown for them to deploy behind the Shield guard fighting through the shield wall. 

The Greatswords, led by Captain Amara, wield massive two-handed rune blades, which only the very strongest of the Kingsguard recruits can learn, enabling them to join the ranks. However, their strength and stamina are legendary, and despite their weapon of choice, the enemy is likely to tire long before the Greatswords do. 

Last but not least, there is the Kingsguard Cavalry, led by Captain Gul'dar. All the Kingsguard have animal companions who live in an enormous stable complex adjoining the Oakesgate Barracks. As the creatures are born, each warrior is allocated one as their mount. They hand rear this new animal companion from a baby creating a special bond. 

The sidearm of choice for the Kingsguard is the Falcata, a broad-bladed short sword perfect for chopping and capable of cleaving an opponent in two. Wielded by the skilled Kingsguard warriors, these blades are most deadly.

As the nation teetered on the brink of utter chaos, out of nowhere, a lone man arrived in Oakesgate, the kingdom's capital city, announcing himself as King, taking the crown and sitting atop the throne.

The man had an air of power and an aura that commanded respect from those around him. Despite his arrival, rioting broke out in the streets as the gang and guilds' heads refused to acknowledge him and attempted to remove this false King.

Over the weeks that followed, Garmond personally thwarted many assassination attempts, each time offering the assailant a chance to repent and serve him. His prowess in dealing with these attackers and his noble and merciful ways won him the respect of the Talarian Military leaders, who chose to pledge loyalty to him.

King Garmond appointed the Black Wing as his bodyguard, recolouring their armour from the traditional Dark Blue and gold to his own preferred green and gold, creating the "Kingsguard".

The Kingsguard consists of several separate units, each with a focused combat speciality. The Shield Guard, led by Captain Callan, specialise in close combat and melee defence and are often found at the side of the King himself. They have perfected defensive tactics, protecting their ruler with their own lives if needed.

The pack contains a number of miniatures from past monthly releases as a sample of the minis I have avaialble.  There are 13 miniatures in the pack plus a bundle of flagstone textured bases.

The Therion Ifrit is a large model, around 120mm tall.  He has been sculpted and posed to print as a single piece on a 5.5" build plate with his base separate.  

The truth of our tale was the Barghest was the high lord of a hoard of feral goblins, hobgoblins, bugbears and trolls.  While Cedric spent the Winter with the Order of the Golden Lotus, his enemy had returned, licking his wounds to his mountain home where he first planned and then initiated an offensive at Oakesgate, sat at the foot of the Drakespine mountains.  Barghests feed on the souls of their victims to grow in power. Therefore his plan was a simple one to devour enough souls to be elevated to a demi-god after his assault.   

With the first signs of Spring, the green horde, whipped into an absolute frenzy by their monstrous leader, descended the steep paths out of the uplands, their numbers turning the mountainside green. Then, still groggy with Winter, the warning signals of Oakesgate were sounded slowly, the massive horns first initiating the alarm followed by the lighting of substantial signal fires indicating for its people outside to come to the city to seek protection inside its walls. 

The goblins mindlessly cut their way through the border villages and smaller towns, killing all those before them who react too slowly to the warnings.  With only small garrisons of the Talarian army located outside the city gates, the Talarians initially suffers hefty losses as they found themselves underprepared for the onslaught.  

Eventually, in time, the entire army mustered on the field of battle to launch a counter attack against the  goblin horde.  The goblin numbers are massive, outnumbering the Talarian force vastly.  With a concern of becoming overwhelmed, Lydia steps up with a small detachment of Kingsguard to defend her.  Bowing her head, she begins to chant.   At first, a runic circle of red light appears on the ground around her feet, beams of light shooting up around her, magical runes forming in the light, changing shape and then disappearing.   The ground in front of her feet begins to crack.  the crack spreads out rapidly toward the oncoming horde and magma starts to pour out of the crack.  Suddenly, the ground erupts, and a fountain of molten fire engulfs the closest goblins.  From out of the centre of the explosion, a giant creature forms into the mighty Therion, Ifrit the Lord of Fire!

Straight away, the Therion's flaming claws are swiping at the goblins, incinerating them with its touch alone, sending their burning bodies flying this way and that into their ranks.  Ifrit smashes them, throws them, eats a few and ultimately leaps into the air, creating a giant fireball in his hands, hurling it into the centre of the goblin mass. 

Realising the summoner is behind the fire demons appearance, a unit of goblins make a beeline for her, driving through the enemy, determined to reach their target.  Physically drained by summoning the mighty Therion, Lydia first begins to sway on her feet and then begins to lose consciousness.  As this happens, two guards catch her carrying the exhausted caller to safety whilst her Shield Guard using instinct alone, formed a wall of shields in front of her to enable her an unhindered retreat.   With the rest of her bodyguard closing in to receive their attackers, the goblins realise their brave assault is now futile and flee.  As her consciousness fades, the power keeping Ifrit on the mortal plane wanes and the link is severed, sending the Theriion back to his home on the aether plane. But not before the almighty Fire Lord has caused enough damage to the enemy to turn the tide of the battle.

Battered and beaten by the Talarians, with their numbers beginning to break, the goblins are sent scuttling back to the mountains.  The Ranger Corps set up stationed watch towers all across the Drakespine to ensure that they receive sufficient warning of a significant surprise attack in the future.  The reason for this? Unfortunately for the victors, the Barghest survived the battle, strategically withdrawing from the conflict to fight another day.

"Quickly now, quickly bring him in and lay him out on the large stone table over there. We don't have much time.”

Navigating the packed room with its books, bottles, and furniture was difficult for the two guards carrying their dead comrade between them made more complicated as they didn't like to look at his horrific wound where the Barghest had ripped out his life.

“Hold him down”, the noble lady ordered, for one so slight she had a commanding presence which they obeyed immediately. "I don't think we will have much joy with butterflies and moths to heal this wound; we are going to need something more", she muttered to herself, now seeing the true extent of the damage.

Having long studied magic learning many of its secrets, and harnessing its power Lilly was a potent user, a manipulator of the element of water. Although trained in the art of offensive magic, her preference was as a healer, where she channelled her understanding into this potent gift. What was now before her would test her skills to their very limits. To find out what she needed to know, her only option was to resurrect this dead guard, which would mean channelling an esper crystal, one containing a phoenix soul.

Lily gently lifted the purple stone from its usual resting place. As she touched it, the surface burst into life. It seemed it know what was expected from it.  Closing her eyes, she began to channel the power of the stone into herself. As she did, tendrils of what looked like purple flame entered her body, and in the same way, as the stone had begun to glow, so did she. After what seemed like an age to the guards holding the patient, which was indeed only seconds, Lilly placed her hand over the dead man's wound. As she did, the purple energy rushed out of her body, through her hand and into the lifeless man.

Almost immediately, the body on the table convulsed and began to strain against its captives. "Hold him, hold him tight. His dead body is once again filling with life which will bring it and his mind, confusion."  The guards held their comrade down and watched in awe as his terrible wound healed and the colour drained back into his face. Helping the once dead man sit, all three guards eyed Lilly with a mix of awe and fear, made all the more uncomfortable when she asked in a voice like ice, "Where is Cedric?"

There are 2 variations of Abel, with and without helmet.

"Abel, Abel, where are you?" called Lilly. She was in a hurry, running in the direction of the practice area. Alerting a practising member of the Order of the Dragon to her presence as early as possible was a sensible idea.

Captain Abel had a reputation amongst the Kingsguard due to his elven agility. He was a swift and cunning fighter that was near impossible to predict in a fight! Years of practice brought with it deadly skill and control. He could sometimes lose himself in the dance of death, and Lilly wanted to make sure she didn't surprise him.

Lilly needn't have been worried. The captain stood still as a statue as she entered the training hall. The exertion of his practice was plain for all to see as sweat glistened and clung to his torso. He was not out of breath.

"What is it, Princess?"

Although friends for years, this wasn't the only reason Abel was so willing to help Lilly. He loved her…was in love with her. It still hurt every day that she had chosen Cedric over him; however, he was at her disposal out of duty. Cedric was his best friend, and if in danger, he needed his help.

Friends since their youth, Able was always getting the pair into trouble due to his recklessness. Over the years, the two had fought side by side during many battles. Their awareness of each other forged over many years had saved their life so many times.  Who was the better fighter? Abel had bested Cedric in personal combat, the only man to do so. Even though Cedric claimed he had let his friend beat him, he knew differently.

And now his friend was in trouble.  However, this wasn't the first time, but something in Lilly's voice told him it was serious, and because of this, Abel was ready. It didn't take him long to arm himself, pulling on his drake mantel and grabbing his spear, which he had leaned against the wall as he heard Lilly approach. He was ready.

The experience of his induction into the Order of The Dragon had granted Abel unrivalled knowledge of Drakespine Mountains among the people of Talarius. Lilly had informed him Cedric was last seen following the Barghest in that direction, something he could quickly confirm using his ability as a tracker.  It hadn't tested his skills. The tracks left by both had been plain to see.

Now, standing on the broken ice bridge, he could see the struggle that had taken place and where both combatants had fallen.  If Cedric was alive, he now had a good idea where he would be.

Arriving at the gates of the mountain monastery, Abel had first discovered this place during his trial. When starving close to death, they had taken him out of the fierce snowstorm. It was the only way he had survived his challenge. He struck the giant bell at the entrance with its hammer to announce his presence. He didn't have to wait long. The monastery gates of the order of the golden lotus opened silently, and Grand Master Kang confronted him. "He is here."

This set contains 2 models of the Twin court mages - Pandi and Portia.

Sidney was in the one place above all others he would rather be, his workshop.  Troublemakers would argue that his favourite place was one of the many taverns around Oakesgate, but Sidney would quickly interject that these were the best places to foster ideas as good beer loosens the brain!  Included among the best ideas that he'd had, during lubrication, was the airship, a concept cooked up with Abel during one of their infamous drinking sessions.  Initially, the idea of airships had sounded ludicrous. However, people had once again underestimated Sidney's superior skill and technical genius.  Mixed in with him being bloody-minded, he had used all his ability to create a craft that was both fast and agile.  Today though, the one he was currently surveying needed "tweaking", and he had put aside the morning to do just this.

"And for tweaking, there is nothing better than my favourite wrench,' He muttered to himself as he reached out to pick it up from where he had just put it down.  But the wrench wasn't there.  Turning to look this time instead of just patting with just his hand, Sidney couldn't see it anywhere.  "Where has that gone? I've only just put it down, and now I can't find it. This is ridiculous!" he grumbled.   In a fit of rage, the old dwarf starts to bang and crash around like a bad-tempered old bear, first lifting one thing and then another, culminating in him rummaging through his workbench for the now missing tool.

Above this din, a child's giggle can be heard from the balcony above. Looking up to where the sound came from, floating just above his head, is his missing wrench.  Each time the old dwarf jumps to try and grab it, the wrench floats that little bit higher making him rage and shout, causing more and more joy for the pranksters.  Laughing so hard, two young children identical in age spill out from behind a curtain. The sight of the dwarf trying to propel himself into the air and missing his target proving to be just too much for them.

Spying the twins as the ones behind yet another prank at his expense, Sidney immediately knew what to do. "Lilly, Lilly, the twins are causing trouble again!" he boomed, laughing out loud at the same time.  "That's not fair, Little Uncle calling for Lilly's help", the twins knew how tough she could be.  Lilly was the person who they called upon to put out actual fires caused by the Twins during their frequent temper tantrums.  With the threat of Lilly approaching, the twins were off scampering away, looking for their next victim.

Sidney knew the twins were just children playing pranks, and usually, he would be encouraged to join in, but today he wanted to finish what he had started with the airship.  Musing to himself, sharing a sense of humour with King Garamond, who was just as bad as they were for playing pranks, was why they got away with so much.  That and the fact they were still just children. Children, he thought, shaking his head, the most potent fire mages in the kingdom are just two younglings.  Each twin could amplify the ability of the other to furious and frightening heights! And being so young, Sidney was as protective of them as if they were his own.

This set contains 2 versions of Lydia the Therion Caller model. One with a plush mascot on her hip and one without.

Each time she allowed the voices to rise inside her head, Lydia was transported back to her childhood. Always there, the whispers in the wind and the murmurings.  There was no hiding from them.  They were so loud during the hours of darkness.  Being a young girl, she told her playmates, who told their parents who talked and eventually the entire village concluded she was cursed and stopped their children playing with her.  Now left alone, she listened more to the voices, growing ever louder and louder.

At the age of eight, her family came to the Oakesgate for the Festival of Light.  A popular celebration in the Talarian calendar where  the streets are line with lanterns, street vendors pedal sweet and savoury treats and fireworks are set off to celebrate the Godess of light. Because of this, the city was packed tightly with revellers.  Was it the claustrophobic feeling caused by the bodies around her or the choir of voices inside her head, so loud and so numerous, that caused her to break down in the street? Of this, Lydia did not know.  All she remembers of that day was the fire that exploded in her brain. As uncontrollable tears poured from her eyes, an angel appeared, soothing her, quietening the voices and speaking to her, helping her.

That angel was Lilly, who used her magic to soothe the crying child, and when told the reason for the episode, the archmage believed that the young girl was one known as a caller and resolved herself to help. 

Lydia was enrolled into the college of magic, and her family were moved to the capital by order of the King. With Lilly's help, and with guidance from Grand High Mage Toller, she learned to silence the voices inside her head and ultimately to command those around her.  Lilly also discovered that Lydia had a particularly rare talent and was able to speak directly to the souls contained within Esper crystals and can call them into a physical form if needed. 

Many callers can summon smaller creatures like wolves, goblins, drakes and sometimes even humanoids, ogres and trolls.  But Lydia is exceptional.  She has a true gift and can speak to the Therions, mighty creatures of legend whose souls are so powerful as to be responsible for maintaining the continent afloat.  She has a particular fondness for the Mist Dragon and her friend Ifrit, with whom she spends most of her free time.

Edillion is a world rife with Magic in many forms.  Academics and engineers  have long studied magic and have learnt some secrets to harness its power.  It is used in every day life to provide power to machines, provide illumination and all manner of mundane uses.  They have also found ways to harness the power of magic in a weaponised form.  This is often done using machines to launch magical projectiles or create a magical explosion of sorts.  Through the use of Esper stones (crystals containing the souls of creatures) the magic can be elementally attuned to the element of the creature whose soul is contained within.  A little salamander may provide enough magical fire energy to power a cooking appliance or a fire lighter, but with a stone containing the soul of a mighty red dragon – you could provide warmth and power cooking facilities for an entire city!

Harnessing the souls into the Esper stones takes a special kind of individual to do, requiring them to be present a the time of death of the creature whilst performing an enchantment to contain the soul.  This is a skill learned from the ancient elves who were custodians over the Life tree, through whose roots all souls pass once departed.  The souls are sometimes recycled to be born anew and other times are lost to the void.  those that were beginning to be lost were cultivated by the Elves and stored in crystals until they could be used in a respectful way.

There are also those that are innately attuned to magic and through their natural ability and elemental affinity can harness magical power using their own body as a conduit.  As with most creatures, these “sorcerers” have only a single element to which they are attuned.  It is possible to retrain to another element with strenuous study, although it is almost unheard of to be able to control multiple elements at once. 

There are also gifted individuals that can speak to the souls contained within the Esper Crystals and summon them into physical form for a short period of time.

Those showing an aptitude for ranged weapons are initially drafted into the Archers regiment and spend their time at the target range practicing with their long bows. 

Those that show an aptitude for Melee combat (or even just no real aptitude at all!) are usually enrolled in the Light Infantry as men at arms.  Then there are those that occasionally appear that have something a little more special to offer...

Once their period of mandatory service was over, the citizens of Talarius are given 2 options – return to their home lives and continue with their family trades whilst continuing to maintain their combat training (albeit in a less active manner) and remaining on standby in case of a national emergency; or continue their service as professional soldiers.  A large number obviously are always desperate to get out of harms way and return to civilian life, raise a family and so on.

Those that choose to remain have a number of paths open to them.  There are officer roles commanding units, detachments or even legions.  There are specilaised roles within the Light Infantry and Light Cavalry that require someone with both grit and experience.  And then there are the Knightly orders that will always be on the lookout for talented individuals"

Feeling there was an opportunity needed to create a tactical advantage in a battle, Abel began searching for ways that he could strike hard and fast at the enemy where they least expected it.  King Garmond agreed, and Abel was granted a small unit of loyal Kingsguard that he hand picked for their tenacity and fearlessness.

It was during a drinking session with Chief Engineer Sidney that Abel had a moment of inspiration – those air ships! They were fast and agile thanks to Cid’s sheer technical genius! The enemy would expect a frontal attack, they may even be somewhat prepared to deal with flanking and rear attacks, but could they possibly expect an attack from the air?! They set to developing their shock tactics, training and refining them until they had them perfected. They favoured heavy bladed polearms such as spears and lances and would leap from the deck of the airships to descend on their enemies from above, using their own velocity and fiercely sharp spears to turn themselves into living projectiles! It is a dangerous tactic as if they were to miss their target their chance of surviving the impact was low, but if they hit their target after reaching terminal velocity, they could skewer even the toughest and most heavily armoured targets!

From within the depths of the enemy ranks, these elite and agile soldiers are able to sow panic and dissent amongst the enemy ranks before leaping from combat to strike another target. Their fearlessness and ferocity, as well as their Captain’s love and fascination with dragons earned them the name “The Order of the Dragon”.

Only the most fearless of soldiers are permitted entry to join the Order of the Dragon, and even then only after they have completed their induction ritual. They are sent into the Drakespine mountains armed with nothing but a spear and must hunt and slay a wind drake and capture its essence in an Esper Crystal. The pelt of the slain beast is worn as a mantle to both as a public display of their prowess, but also to remind them what it takes to be part of the regiment.

This set contains 4 Heavily Armoured Order of the Behemoth Ogre Berserkers with dual cleavers.

Talarius is a melting pot of races, with Humans, Orcs, Elves, Demonkin and catfolk all commonplace. Dwarves are less common but are seen occasionally, and then there are Ogres. Ogres are not monsters, but are enormous sentient humanoid creatures. They are not known for having the sharpest of intellects, but what they lack in brains they make up for in strength. In civilian life you will find Ogres working as doormen in taverns, labouring at the forges and on farms, and assisting in warehouse operations. They are commonly recruited as mercenaries because they are simply a fearsome sight on the battlefield and few people will want to stand toe to toe with even a single one of them!

Ogres are drafted into the military service like any other citizen of Talarius, and those that choose to remain on as professional soldiers often have developed a love of a good fight. Civilian life will almost certainly lead to disastrous consequences for them, but King Garmond saw another way to make good use and also keep them out of trouble. He spoke at length to Artun of Fer’air, one of the first Ogres that had ever been recruited into the Kingsguard. This of course meant he was incredibly disciplined and loyal, but more than that, Artun was particularly intelligent for an Ogre and had a keen mind for tactics. Garmond asked Artun to take these combat enthusiastic Ogres under his wing and instill in them discipline, learn about their abilities and design some special tactics that would make the best possible use of them.

Artun took 5 of these Ogres from their mandatory service and took them out beyond the Drakespine mountain range and onto the Plains. They disappeared for 3 years.

One day there was uproar in Oakesgate! Garmond looked out of the window of the palace and saw civilians running around the streets screaming. The screams suddenly stopped and turned to cheering. What was going on?! Garmond took a detachment of Kingsguard with him and rode out into town. In the town square, they were greeted by a group of feral looking ogres accompanied by a massive Behemoth! The horned and spined creature was immense in its size and strength and terrifying to behold, but amazingly it stood there calmly and did not appear to be a threat.   Artun and his retinue had returned.

Artun greeted Garmond and explained to him that this Behemoth was him, and he was it. It had been his tactical inspiration. When he had first seen the magnificent creature, it had been attacked by a hoard of feral goblins and trolls that had tried collectively to bring it down. It had charged at them using its massive horns to rend the unfortunate creatures in its path. It had swiped out with its huge limbs and spike tail and wiped out scores of goblins, and even in the face of overwhelming numbers had refused to go on the defensive and had instead relied on its enormous mass and had gone into a wild rage, attacking relentlessly. Seeing the total obliteration of their kin, the remaining trolls and kobolds had simply scattered and run away.

The Ogres adopted this combat technique and sought out challenges to refine it. The best Defence was a berserk Offence! Let the attackers in and then show them true might and fury!

When they finally approached the Behemoth, there was no fear, there was no apprehension and there was no aggression on either side. The Ogres and the behemoth were on the same level and the behemoth understood Artun implicitly. They had created a soul bond - a magical connection where both spirits were united and each is spiritually a part of the other. From this moment on, Garmond named Artun and his Ogre Berserkers the Order of the Behemoth. Of course first on his list to do was to visit the smithy and get them fitted out with some strong armour! if they weren’t going to practice defence, Garmond still wanted his soldiers protected!!

"Almost there..."

Looking down at the scar on his right hand just behind the thumb, it ached with phantom pain from a long-ago memory. He rubs his beard while recounting the memory of the incident from his youth. "Grey. When did it become so grey?" he chuckles to himself. Up ahead, the sun breaks through the trees casting rays of golden glow on the trail ahead. One foot in front of the other, he emerges from the tree line to an open field of farmland with a beaten path running through it.

"Not too far now." He whispers to himself. He notices the weight of his pack and adjusts the strap over his shoulder as he takes a quick drink from his waterskin. Step leads to step he trudged on, with his head down. With the future weighing heavy on his mind, lost in thought, he is stopped abruptly by a loud shout. "HALT! State your name and business."

Had he arrived already? It seemed like only a moment since the woods. Before him stands the majestic city walls of Oakesgate, the grand capital of Talarius. He looks at the guards, slightly puzzled and steps forward.

"I SAID HALT!" The tip of a spear pointed directly at his nose, inches away from his face. The guard holding the spear is young, twenty years of age at best. He knows he could disarm the guard in a heartbeat, but that would make the youth look a fool. He chooses diplomacy instead. "Young man," He says calmly ", Is this how you greet your king?"

As the nation teetered on the brink of utter chaos, out of nowhere, a lone man arrived in Oakesgate, the kingdom's capital city, announcing himself as King, taking the crown and sitting atop the throne.

The man had an air of power and an aura that commanded respect from those around him. Despite his arrival, rioting broke out in the streets as the gang and guilds' heads refused to acknowledge him and attempted to remove this false King.

Over the weeks that followed, Garmond personally thwarted many assassination attempts, each time offering the assailant a chance to repent and serve him. His prowess in dealing with these attackers and his noble and merciful ways won him the respect of the Talarian Military leaders, who chose to pledge loyalty to him.

The first to swear allegiance were the elite Order of the Black Wing. Commanded by the legendary Dark Knight, these elite knights fought both on foot and mounted and utilised the wondrous Talarian Air Ships that make up the Black Wing Armada. In the absence of the Dark Knight. King Garmond appointed the Black Wing as his bodyguard, recolouring their armour from the traditional Dark Blue and gold to his own preferred green and gold, creating the "Kingsguard".

The Kingsguard consists of several separate units, each with a focused combat speciality. The Shield Guard, led by Captain Callan, specialise in close combat and melee defence and are often found at the side of the King himself. They have perfected defensive tactics, protecting their ruler with their own lives if needed.   

The Glaive Guard, led by Captain Zahurd, are deployed as palace guards armed with large ornamental runic Glaives. Due to their rigorous martial training, they wield this weapon to devastating effect. When formed upon the battlefield, the Glaive Guard are a tight fighting force that can keep the enemy out of arms reach. It is not unknown for them to deploy behind the Shield guard fighting through the shield wall. 

The Greatswords, led by Captain Amara, wield massive two-handed rune blades, which only the very strongest of the Kingsguard recruits can learn, enabling them to join the ranks. However, their strength and stamina are legendary, and despite their weapon of choice, the enemy is likely to tire long before the Greatswords do. 

Last but not least, there is the Kingsguard Cavalry, led by Captain Gul'dar. All the Kingsguard have animal companions who live in an enormous stable complex adjoining the Oakesgate Barracks. As the creatures are born, each warrior is allocated one as their mount. They hand rear this new animal companion from a baby creating a special bond. 

The sidearm of choice for the Kingsguard is the Falcata, a broad-bladed short sword perfect for chopping and capable of cleaving an opponent in two. Wielded by the skilled Kingsguard warriors, these blades are most deadly.

"Get down, you maniac!" Sidney shouted up at Abel as the warrior stood on the ramparts of the city wall high above him.  The Captain of the Order of the Dragon was standing statuesque, focused with his giant spear in hand.  What had started as a heated drunken discussion turned argument last night had escalated into a live demonstration today.

It all seemed so clear in Abel's head. The enemy would expect a frontal attack. They may even be somewhat prepared to deal with flanking and rear attacks, but could they possibly expect an attack from the air? This theory is what he had proposed to the diminutive engineer who accused him of just being suicidal.  "No way can anyone, let alone you, jump from such a height and land with great accuracy to spear an opponent. Then there is the question of injuring yourself in the process. It's a suicide mission, I tell you!"

However, with the practice dummy no more than 12 feet away from where the dwarf stood, he proceeded to witness the man at the top of the castle jump and descend by the most direct route possible, perfectly skewering the target right through the head.  Abel rose to his feet unscathed, "see?".

"Oh, my, oh my, oh my, my boy, you weren't kidding. That was amazing, probably one of the most amazing things I have seen in all my days," and the old dwarf wasn't kidding. "I should have believed you last night; however, you have convinced me, right here and now!  I'll make you your cruiser. Let's take this conversation to my workshop I feel there is no time to waste!"

So from a drunken night at the tavern and a potential reckless demonstration, the Talarian Airship was conceived. These airships levitate and fly using grav engines designed by Sidney, which keep these battle barges in the air.  Powered by the Esper crystals containing the souls of creatures with a strong affinity to the air element.  This is the key to making everything function, enabling these agile ships to deliver their deadly payload into the heart of the enemy.

As the dwarf constructed, Abel had only one task set him by the engineer. He needed to hunt the wind drakes to capture their souls, for this is what's inside the crystals.  This task quickly became the right of passage, the initiation ceremony into the Order of the Dragon.  It serves two purposes, supplying Sidney with the means to power his airships and proving that the warriors are the correct ones to ride in them.

The Shield Guard, led by Captain Callan, specialise in close combat and melee defence and are often found at the side of the King himself. They have perfected defensive tactics, protecting their ruler with their own lives if needed.   

The Glaive Guard, led by Captain Zahurd, are deployed as palace guards armed with large ornamental runic Glaives. Due to their rigorous martial training, they wield this weapon to devastating effect. When formed upon the battlefield, the Glaive Guard are a tight fighting force that can keep the enemy out of arms reach. It is not unknown for them to deploy behind the Shield guard fighting through the shield wall. 

The Greatswords, led by Captain Amara, wield massive two-handed rune blades, which only the very strongest of the Kingsguard recruits can learn, enabling them to join the ranks. However, their strength and stamina are legendary, and despite their weapon of choice, the enemy is likely to tire long before the Greatswords do. 

Last but not least, there is the Kingsguard Cavalry, led by Captain Gul'dar. All the Kingsguard have animal companions who live in an enormous stable complex adjoining the Oakesgate Barracks. As the creatures are born, each warrior is allocated one as their mount. They hand rear this new animal companion from a baby creating a special bond. 

The sidearm of choice for the Kingsguard is the Falcata, a broad-bladed short sword perfect for chopping and capable of cleaving an opponent in two. Wielded by the skilled Kingsguard warriors, these blades are most deadly.

His pursuit of the Barghest led him to the Drakespine mountains. Hunting his prey amidst a landscape of ice and snow he found had its own unique set of challenges. Finally, he cornered the beast upon a natural ice bridge, where it fought ferociously as only a wounded predator can.  Eventually, Cedric gained the upper hand, raising his sword to strike the fatal blow triumph turned to shock in his lungs as his enemy struck down, breaking the ice at their feet, sending both fighters tumbling into the darkness below. 

Somehow, he was still alive, but the Barghest was nowhere to be seen. Regaining his feet with a head pounding, the darkness within him driving a hunt, which consumes him for two additional days.  

And now, the power to wield darkness that had been such a boon to him feels tainted. The inherent evil was beginning to consume him. The darkness itself was not evil, he knew - it was true that there could be no light without darkness, as these two forces were two halves of the same whole.  Despite this knowledge, Cedric felt emotionally trapped. His blackened armour covered with intricate carvings of demons had saved him so many times, but now it felt like a cage – the heaviest of cages. Once the extension of his being, his sword that he used to amplify his inner darkness and channel it into mighty blows was now a burden to him, weighing him down with every step. He could not go on like this.    

The Barghest's dried blood had soaked his cloak and armour, seeping into his clothing beneath the metal. The icy winds on the Drakespine left him frozen to his core. Every step was laboured, and each slower and shorter than the last. The battle had left him injured and aching, and now that the adrenaline rush had passed, he felt every laceration, every bruise and broken bone. Would the elements finally take him? Was this the end?  

"Should I die this night, I do so happily in the knowledge that my King has been avenged, and a great evil is no more." With this thought, his consciousness faded, and with it, the cold and pain ceased to matter.  

As his eyelids closed, he saw a vision of a shadowy figure standing over him. A dragon? Then this indeed was the end.

"Ah, we have been waiting for you, Abel. Now we can begin in earnest!"

The Grand Master led the way through the Dragon Gate and into the temple compound where the snow fell, laying its powdery white carpet.  Kang had been at the order's temple monastery in the Drakespine since he was a child.  An affinity with earth magic resulted in a journey to the temple where he was offered to the monks, as is tradition.  Through the many years of training, he demonstrated both great skill and patience and an expert mastery over the element of earth.  When it became time for the old Grand Master to stand down, Kang was uncontested to take his place and unanimously welcomed by his fellow monks.

Incredulously inside, situated at all corners and growing out from the stone floor, were trees full of spring's pink cherry blossom. The juxtaposition of the pink blossom falling on the white snow was both beautiful and alien to Abel's senses.

Here in this compound, the Order of the Golden Lotus trained a minimum of three times a day, often more. Abel looked behind him as he heard the large entrance gate clang shut, "there is no point in thinking of leaving now. After today's snowfall, the gate will not open again until spring." 

"What, wait!" Abel cried, "you mean I am trapped here until then?"

"We are all trapped here until the snow breaks and thaws, you, me and Cedric. We must use this time wisely to help your friend."

Kang pointed across the courtyard with a long, precise finger at the man Abel had known most of his life. He was relieved to see his friend alive. Drawing closer Abel could see the conflict written all over Cedric's face as though he was wrestling demons of his own.  

"Gentlemen, you are required to attend each of my classes, including after-class training, you will partner with each other.  In addition, you are expected to complete duties to contribute to the upkeep of the monastery. Your lives will be difficult, both physically and mentally, but the efforts that each of you puts in will be matched by the rewards you will gain. This is the traditional way of our order, and you have an excellent opportunity to learn by immersion in an environment that fosters this learning."

"Your first lesson starts now, follow my form, copy my moves." The master began to weave a complex pattern in front of both men, his hands and feet moving together, blocking, kicking and punching.  When both men could imitate Kang's movements, he turned the men to face one another. "The kata I have taught you underpins everything we teach here, and you will both practise it every day. I have introduced you to how we attack and defend against an opponent simultaneously, and you will practice this. To my count, 1...2...3...4...5...and back to start again."

"Move, strike, throw, get up, reset, go. We are training without thought, without thinking and without feeling. Turn, repeat, move and strike."

"We must remove the darkness inside you, Cedric...2...3...4...You can not be driven by the darkness move out from underneath it."

"Your skills and ability are yours and not the darkness within you. It is using you to deliver what it desires. Strike Cedric down Abel, beat him into submission, make his anger rise up and let the darkness consume him. 1...2...3...4..and back to start again.  Let us bring him to the light."

As the master of the temple counted out the timings through his physical form interjected with his wisdom, his chanting meditation projected his astral form onto the transdimensional plane as he needed to seek further advice from the Dragon King.

All the while, the snow continued to fall in the courtyard laying its powdery white carpet.

"Cedric’s eyes opened slowly, his vision blurred.  He blinked a few times and rubbed his eyes, and as his focus returned to him, he realised he was in a simple but warm and inviting building.  His last memory had been of falling through the glacier – he had thought himself dead, though evidently he had (thankfully) been wrong. 

A soft voice came from across the room “Ah, he is awake!  Quick, fetch Master Kang and inform him our guest is awake”

A man walked across the room to meet him.  He was an elf, with his hair tied up on top of his head.  He was wearing a dark blue robe with golden yellow coloured garments visible beneath the robes.  The prayer beads he wore in abundance on his person let Cedric know he was in the presence of one of the Warrior Monks of the Order of the Golden Lotus.  He had met many monks in his years living in Oakesgate, where they frequently visited the markets to stock up on provisions.  It was well known that they lived in isolation in the Drakespine Mountains in their fortified monastery.  Is this where he was now?  Had the Monks rescued him from certain death?

“Did you bring me here?” He attempted to sit up and pain wracked his body – clearly he had not escaped his fall unscathed!

The Monk jumped to his aid immediately, helping Cedric to sit up on the edge of his bed.  “You were left at the gate of our monastery sir.  We had thought you near death, but it would seem the Dragon King Bahamut smiles upon you as you not only continue to draw breath, but have now regained your consciousness”.

“How long have I been here?” asked Cedric

“You arrived here 3 days ago”.

“Who brought me here?  My last memory was falling from the Ice bridge on the Glacier”

“That is some miles from here.  Clearly someone must have found you and helped you here, but it was not one of our own.”

“Thank you for providing me aid and for saving my life good sir” Cedric said finally.  Then he sat and pondered for a few minutes.  The Barghest he had fought would have killed him if it had too survived the fall, and it was the only other living being up there with him to his knowledge.  Who had Saved his life? 

Then he remembered, his fading vision….the Dragon!"

"Master Kang, I have a question for you," asked Abel, "who is the man they call Kotaro?". "They say he was once a monk here at the monastery of the Order of the Golden Lotus, is this true?".

"What you say is true, he was once part of our order, but unfortunately, he was unable to control his temper. As a result, he killed four monks during a training incident, and for this, he was banished from the monastery."

Unbeknown to Kang, that is not the whole truth of what transpired. The monk known as Kotaro was chosen to receive the Mark of the Dragon. With this action, the great Bahamut informed him of an assassination plot to kill the Grand Master and betray the location of the Dragon King to a rival nation.  Slaying the Dragon protector of Talarius would weaken the Kingdom and open them up for an invasion.

Bahamut chose Kotaro to identify the assassins and end their plotting. However, whilst executing his orders, the massacre witnessed by the other initiates left them feeling uneasy in his presence, resulting in him having to leave the order.     

Kotaro's actual name isn't known. He arrived in Talarius a little while after Garmond, immediately pledging his loyalty and services to the new King.   Even though Kotaro is a solitary character, wherever the King appears, he is never too far away, although whether you can see him or not is another matter.   He is the sworn protector of the Dragon.
