I woke with a start, looking forward to the wondrous day that lies ahead of me. Today was October 31st, the best day in all of Buddyland; The Buddyland Games! I was excited, and admittedly, a bit nervous to finally compete in the games for the first time! I walked over to the bathroom and took a nice warm shower, before finishing it off with a nice shave of my monstache and brushing my 3 fangs until they were a shiny pearl white. I had to look my absolute best if i wanted to win the event I was entering, the Monster Extravaganza! Once finished with my morning routine, I went to my closet and grabbed my lucky top hat. I just couldn’t lose! I had my eyes on that trophy since I was just a wee monster, and I knew that one day, I would be the proud owner of the beautiful golden cup that awaited this year’s champ. I ran downstairs in excitement and hopped in Rusty, my old yet faithful monster-mobile. The engine started with a whine before i made my way down to city hall, the location of the competition I had so eagerly waited for my whole life. I drove into the parking lot with my huge, signature oval grin, showing my 3 white fangs. I couldn’t believe it was finally happening! Win or lose, I realized, the Buddyland games weren’t about winning but simply about bringing the community together for a fun day of friendly competition, although not all monsters saw it that way unfortunately. As I made my way down towards the contestant waiting area, I received a couple of stares from some waiting spectators that I could only hope were received because of my good looks. An hour went by, and the interference on the microphone signified the start of the competition. “Ladies and Gentlemen of Buddyland, please give a round of applause for the 2018 Monster Extravaganza! For those of you who haven’t attended or simply need a refresher, the voting system is based on you, the spectators! Simply draw a check mark next to the monster you think deserves the award for this year’s competition, and place it in the ballot box when finished! Without further ado, I present to you our beloved contestants!” The stage curtains opened, and me and the 9 other monster contestants walked up to the stage, all of us giving our best pose hoping to impress the spectators. After a couple of minutes, the return of the familiar voice stated,”Alright spectators and contestants, time’s up! Please finish any ballots that were not filled out and place them in the ballot box. Contestants, please return behind the curtains while we tally the votes.” All ten of us followed instructions and anxiously waited. Thirty minutes went by. An hour. Finally, a voice said,”Contestants, please return to your positions on the stage!” We all walked out with a nervous feeling, hoping our dreams had come true. “This year’s winner is…” It had to be me, it just had to! “Mr. Whitefangs, and his adorable top hat!” I had done it! I had really won first prize! Emotion shot through my whole body, and a feeling of relief came upon me and I felt my heart rate drop. I was ecstatic! The announcer walked over to me and presented a beautiful golden cup, so pristine it was as clear as a freshly cleaned mirror. I congratulated my fellow contestants before going to the annual feast at the end of the Buddyland games. After downing some food and enjoying some good music, I loaded up in Rusty, double checking I had my prized trophy. I returned home and placed my trophy on the shelf above my bed, before dozing off into a well earned rest.

Dream ending, I woke up abruptly, remembering the Buddyland games were today! I had better get ready if I wanted to win that beautiful trophy...
