Silurian cephalopod, Temperoceras ludlense from the Ludlow area. This specimen has been cut in half to show the internal structure of the shell.
A cephalopod is any member of the molluscan class Cephalopoda such as a squid, octopus or nautilus. These exclusively marine animals are characterized by bilateral body symmetry, a prominent head, and a set of arms or tentacles (muscular hydrostats) modified from the primitive molluscan foot. Fishermen sometimes call them inkfish, referring to their common ability to squirt ink. The study of cephalopods is a branch of malacology known as teuthology.
Imaged using a canon 5DS R and Stackshot 3x with turntable to provide 114 images which were then processed using agisoft photoscan at medium levels.
