After a month of work I would like to present my submission for the Cyrcle Phone Design Competition. I aimed to design a case that was more symmetrical and ergonomic than the original design while still maintaining the ability to print the housing. This was an excellent opportunity to exercise my 3D-printing design skills and be reminded of the value in iteration and determination to make things work. There were some awesome concepts that were truly humbling; it was a pleasure to be able to compete alongside so many fantastic designers. Thanks for checking out my design, I wish everyone luck on the contest!
General Notes:
I decided to use snap fits to secure the housing in order to make the casing fully 3D-printable, but the design can readily be adapted for screws. Another significant change I made was the removal of the external access to the SD Card and SIM Cards for better protection of these essential components. The battery was moved to a center placement to afford for a more symmetrical housing as well. The holes for the buttons and optics will likely need some sanding when they are printed to get them to fit and move comfortably.
To print my casing parts I used the low-quality setting in Cura in the interest of time for creating iterations. For the buttons I used the dynamic profile when using FDM, and the resin settings for Elegoo ABS-like Clear resin when printing with SLA on the Elegoo Mars. Supports will be needed for the parts, but raft should not be necessary for the case pieces. This should use roughly 100g of filament. If there are any issues feel free to reach out!
