An egg shaped loudspeaker enclosure, designed this with Tinkercad.
I have designed this for the Dayton Audio RS100 Full Range driver. It's designed for a full range driver so its easy to wire up and you don't need any filters etc.
Printed in an upright position (no supports needed) with 0.2mm resolution at 5cm/sec which took a good 15 or so hours to do for each enclosure. Its nearly 16cm tall so make sure your printer can handle this. If the speaker is too tall you could try to print it face down but you will need supports because of the inset ring for the speaker
I chose to use wood filament as I have been wanting to use it for something like this. After experimenting with some different finishes on a test print I decided to not do any sanding - the lines made by the printer give a pretty realistic wood-like look, especially when you apply a wood stain. I have experimented with a couple of colours and ended up choosing "Old Baltic" by Feast Watson followed by a coat of clear glossy varnish. See the pictures that show the finished speaker.
The photos of the stained finished speaker show what it looks like with the Dayton drivers. Do be aware that these drivers aren't the cheapest - they cost around $50 (AU$) a pop so you are looking at a sizeable investment.
NOTE: I am not an audio engineer, nor an electronics engineer, nor did I do any clever calculations etc to try and make this the best sounding speaker. I designed it for based on what I thought would make a nice looking unit. That said, I do have 2 sitting in my lounge room now hooked up to the home theater.
