I wanted to create a spool holder that anyone can print without complex supports, that is also strong (layer position during print) and that is designed to be printed with FDM.
This spool holder prints flat without any supports and is then folded and snapped together.
I tried a few different joints but found this one to work best with priting at this size. It is similar to a zip tie.
I recommned to print in PETG but PLA also works (PETG flexes a bit better than PLA which will just snap). I also recommend folding the print while the plastic is still warm from the build plate but it will also work if cold.
The fusion 360 file is included and has paramters which let you easily adjust the sizes.
My print settings are:
0.2 mm layers
0.4 mm nozzle
20% grid infill
no supports
