Description
Many decorative elements added to the splendour of the palace interior. Glazed terracotta plaques were set into the walls a little above head height. They were arranged in rows of alternative squares and circles. The plaques were painted with palm leaves, pomegranates, V-shape designs and interlaced bands. The designs were probably protective symbols.
From Nimrud and Tell Bila, Iraq, 875-865 BC.
Scanned at The I Am Ashurbapinal exhibition (2019) at the British Museum.
