Grave stele
Published 2017-09-12T15:42:13+00:00
Description
Found at Thespiai, Boeotia. A young woman wearing a thin chiton and a himation sits on a stool, with her left arm, adorned by a bracelet, resting gracefully on a cushion. She is possibly a poetess, as indicated by the scrolls-books on the small box beneath her seat. With her right hand, she holds out a bird to a nude boy standing in front of her. The noble figure of the young woman is one of the finest creations of the Thespiai sculpture workshop.
