The statue was made by sculptor Theobald Stein (1821-1901). The original model for Liden Gunver (Little Gunver) was sculpted in 1899, cast in bronze and tested in the garden in 1909, before being permanently displayed there in 1911. Liden Gunver is a figure from Johannes Ewald and Johann Hartmann's play Fiskerne (The Fishermen), which was recorded at The Royal Theater in Copenhagen, 1780.
