This sculpture is part of a much larger, monumental fountain commemorating the life and achievements of French painter Jean-Antoine Watteau. It was designed and sculpted by French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, also known for his sculpture of Ugolino and his Sons (amongst others, check them out on Scan the World here!)
