Votive Relief for a Hero

Cumae (Italy), acquired in 1842
Marble, around 400 BC
Approaching from the right in a worshipping manner, a family comes up to a youthful hero on a horse, who is accompanied by a woman. This is probably a votive relief in honour of a heroized deceased person, to whom were attributed magical powers and who was asked for help.
