Description
This religious monument is dedicated to Buddha. If today Buddhism is the state religion of Cambodia, it has entered the country in the 5th century.
This sculpture was made under King Rajendravarman II or Suryavarman I's reign. The first studied Buddhism thoroughly, although without following it, while the second is considered as one of the greatest Buddhist kings. In this respect, it would seem that this monument was sculpted at a turning point of the history of Buddhism in Cambodia.
