This shape with its rounded contours derives its form from ceramis and was a popular shape in the Eastern Zhou period. Two bands of decoration consist of confronting mythical animals enhanced by the addition of azurite.

The Zhou dynasty was a Chinese dynasty that followed the Shang dynasty and preceded the Qin dynasty.
