As this tombstone represents a soldier, it is most probable that the deceased was a soldier. Hellenistic funeral art would tend to depict a generalized image of the deceased, during a scene of his life, or with his family and possessions. This scene is all the more evokative as the farewell of a soldier is always shaded by the risk of death.
