The bronze sculpture "Liberation" or "Resilience" is a creation of Paul of Gysegem, and was inaugurated during the Liberation Festivals of 1989. The war memorial plinth mentions "To all who have revolted and fought for the liberation of Antwerp - As a tribute to all who have resisted and fought for the liberation of Antwerp | September 4 1944 - September 4 1989.
