Description
From a large relief, possibly an imago clipeata (an honorary circular shield). The austerity and self-control that radiates from the face, as well as the similarities to Julius Caesar's features, suggest a public figure, perhaps an experienced politician. Found in the Roman agora (forum) area, which favours the theory that it was connected to a public honorary monument. Its exceptional quality suggests that it may be the work of an Attic workshop.
