Description
The girl wears two layers of finely crinkled drapery, the outer one with the fabric gathered and stitched to a neckband. On each arm is a spiral snake bracelet. She had pulled up her outer garment in order to carry in its folds a small animal, either a pet or an offering. In Greek art, such statues of young children had a funerary or a votive purpose. Because of their obvious charm, they were often copied for decorative use in Roman times.
