A sleeker and lighter Mirror Mount clamp for the 20 mm MK4 Assist Handle octagonal tube designed to hold a standard bicycle mirror with a 14 mm ball using standard M5 hardware.
The parts can be easily 3D printed, without any support, on a modern inexpensive 3D Printer. They can be printed with a variety of materials, including PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA and many other types of printable materials.
PETG works very well for this application. It is easy to print. The object should be durable, easy to maintain, and last for a long time.
PLA should work as well as long as the parts will not be used, stored or kept at in a high temperature environment, exceeding ~55 C (~ 130 F).
Recommended print settings with a .4 mm nozzle
- Layer Hight: .2 mm
- 5 perimeters or shells (2.25 ~ 2.5 mm)
- 12 bottom layers (2.4 mm)
- 12 top layers (2.4 mm)
- Infill 15%~20%, depending on infill type
Additional items needed for assembly
- 2 x M5-12 (or M5-10) Hex Socket Screws
- 2 x M5 Nuts (M5 locking nylon insert nuts optional)
Assembly Instructions
1- Insert the M5 nuts in the molded pockets of the clamp. A longer screw can be used to help properly seat the nuts.
2- Clamp the Mirror Mount onto the 31 mm Assist Handle MK3 octagonal tube, in the desired position. Do not tighten the screw just yet.
3- Insert the 14 mm ball of the mirror in tip of the longer arm of the clamp. Tighten the screw enough to secure the clamp and the mirror, but do not over-torque them enough to cause damage to the printed parts.
4- DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!
