Entry for protolabs 3D printing awards trophy. 6 pillars of various styles hold up a textured sphere that contains a double helix channel through the center of it. The complex base geometry with an intertwined assortment of lattices, internal helical channels and perforations demonstrates the design flexibility afforded by 3D printing. The feature size, complexity, and overhang angles make this an ideal candidate for MJF.

The top textured sphere mates with the base with via an M5 printed male/female thread combo. The texture has tight internal corners that would be challenging to achieve via conventional means. An internal channel of a lattered double helix runs through the center of sphere and is made visable by printing the sphere in a clear material. Some supports required for the base ~1/3 of the sphere, however some washing out of features would likely be acceptable in this area.

Notes:

• Plaque or inscription can/could certainly be added but wasn't obvious from the description if that was desired / what it would say
• Overall (assembled) print exceeds size requirement (Z=145 not 125) while the individual pieces do not. The smallest features (cube pillar) should still be printable if the entire model needs to be scaled down to meet the stated requirement.
