The hair, sculpted by chisel in a style known as a penna (like birds' feathers) has hardly any volume. The fluid curls of the beard are also reminiscent of portraits of Caracalla. The hint of a smile, as well as the eyes, looking to the right, are reminiscent of those of Severus Alexander.
