Description
The cropping of the hair and the vertical scar on the forehead indicate that the portrait is that of a priest of the Egyptian goddess Isis. This cult was popular in Rome in the late Republican period and adepts came from all social classes, from slaves to members of the aristocracy (nobilitas).
