The Magic Four-sight Ball is a clever adaptation of the classic 8-Ball toy.
This was an interesting design challenge, as I could not include the blue ink, however, I found a way to use a tetrahedron die and gravity to predict the future!
Using the advantages of 3D printing, I built upon the existing toy, and added a new element into the mix. The Magic Four-sight Ball includes a number and direction ring, which allows the user to ask more complex questions.
Example questions:
- “Should I pat this dog?” The Magic Four-sight Ball will tell you whether you should, how many times, and where on the dog.
- “Will I have another shot?” The Magic Four-sight Ball will tell you if you do, and exactly how many you will or will not.
- “Where are the Pokémon hiding?” The Magic Four-sight Ball tell you where the Pokémon are hiding, and how many steps you need to take.

I understand that not everyone has access to a 3D printer, so I’ve published The Magic Four-Sight Ball to my Etsy shop for everyone!
All parts can be printed completely supports free, but rafts are recommended to keep the parts attached to the print bed.
The number direction and number rings can be added mid way through the print
I printed the ball part with 0.3mm layer height with 15% infill, and added the direction and number rings 40 minutes into the print – about one third of the way into the job.
When adding the direction and number rings, be careful that you insert them the right way up. The ball is printed upside down, so you will have to insert the rings upside down. /_-_-_\
The opening to the magic ball can be sealed with the triangular viewing hole, or the circular viewing hole. The circular viewing hole part holds in a 42mm disc of clear plastic, such as from vacuum-formed packaging, giving you the clearest view.
