This plaster bust by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827-1875) depicts the Marquise of Lavalette, completed around 1861-1862. Se was born Adeline Fowle (1799-1869), married in 1816 to an American banker Samuel Welles and then the Marquis Felix de Lavalette (1806-1881). His sculpture can also be found at the Musée d'Orsay and is also uploaded to Scan The World and MyMiniFactory.
