I have always wanted to make a speaker in the shape of an orb or sphere. As I have never been really great at woodwork and I certainly do not have the equipment required to turn something like that out of a block of wood it never happened. Until... I got my 3D printer! I have been working on this design on and off and had a few attempts at printing the spheres. A little while ago I upgraded from my Cocoon Create 3D to a Cocoon Create 3D Touch (Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus) and with that I had another go. I scrapped all the designs I had made to date and started from a blank canvas and this design is the result. There is still room for improvement but I am quite happy with how it turned out.

The arm simply slots into the back of the stand and allows the tweeter to "float"over the woofer. The arm is hollow to allow for the tweeter to be wired up

Just so you know - this speaker is not designed for sound quality, it is the look that I was after. So don't expect this unit to produce ultra HiFi sound - but, it does sound good enough for me to use on a daily basis

The "woofer" orb takes a standard 4" speaker. I purchased mine at Jaycar Electronics (Australia) but I am sure you can use anything you can get your hands on or you may already have laying around. The tweeter is an inexpensive 2" number I ordered from China (I could not find anything small enough and within my budget here readily available in Australia). I have not put any fancy filter in the unit (yet) all I have done is place a 6.8uF capacitor in with the tweeter to get the most simple crossover possible. Certainly room for improvement there but for now it does the job :)
