Descripción
Fragments of a relief, already destroyed in antiquity, were found inside a well in the forecourse of the Ashur Temple. The relief shows a bearded deity in frontal view together with two water goddesses. In his hands, the main figure is holding two long branches while two goats - standing on their hind legs - are eating from the foliage. The deity seems to represent the city and state god Ashur, who, together with the water goddesses, acts as the protector of the plant and animal world. It is, however, equally possible that this figure personifies the Ebih-mountains with the city of Ashur located near its foothills.
