This section of a mortuary or house chamber pillar originates from Kenyah, Kayan (?) in Indonesia. Created in the 19th or 20th Century. It is carved out of wood and was given to the museum of Quai Branly by the Ancient collection from the Barbier-Mueller gallery in Geneva. The piece would adorn a place of worship with the inclusion of a serpent to guard the spirits.
