Descripción
Camel caravans carried frankincense and myrrh, aromatic resins harvested in Arabia, north to the Mediterranean. These valuable commodities were used across the Roman and Parthian Empires. Shabwa, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Hadramawt in southwestern Arabia, gained its wealth from the harvesting of frankincense. Frankincense trees are difficult to cultivate in any concentration, and the incense was collected from wild trees located in the highlands, where the climate fwas conducive to producing the highest-quality resin. The inscription on this burner identifies its donor as Adhlal, son of Wahab'il.
