This sculpture serves a monument in the Jardin du Luxembourg to the people of France and their moralities. The script on the plaque reads 'For their fights and their profound desire of dignity and liberty. The slaves of French colonies have contributed to the universality of human rights and the ideal of Liberty, Freedom and Brotherhood who founded our republic. France gives them its homage here'.
