This 4.2-meter-high bronze statue, made by the sculptor Pablo Serrano Aguilar, belonging to the “El Paso” group, was installed during the socialist spanish government of Felipe González to honor the memory of the former promoter of the New Ministries, next to whose facade the statue sits. Indalecio Prieto was an spanish socialist politician, Minister of Finance under the republican government of Alcalá-Zamora in 1931, of Public Works between 1931 and 1933 and, finally, Minister of National Defense during the government of Juan Negrín, in the midst of the Civil War. He died in exile in Mexico City.
