[Vase] Heavy Metal Grail
[Vase] Heavy Metal Grail

This is my entry for the "Vases" theme in the MyMiniFactory 3D Print Design Competition.
It's a bit hard to print without supports and rather big. About 19cm in height.
Definitely hard on my Anet A8 printer.
I will add pictures of the printed Grail, if it finishes successfully.
Edit: added.
Also added some pictures of the primed object. Next step will be painted photos.
Last picture is a comparison to one of the earlier designs - it broke off while printing because of too strong curves to the top part. And it was printed at a much reduced size.

Use a printer that is able to print the size or scale it down. The final Grail is just a tad taller than 20cm in height (at least my printer showed that).
Don't use too much infill or it will take ages. I ran with 5% or 10%, IIRC. Tuned the settings for speed, so I got finished on a single day (a bit over 7 hours, actually). I also chose a rather high speed for my printer and a layer height on the bigger end of the scale.
If you set everything for quality and a high infill value it will easily take multiple days.
Hardest parts are the bottom of the letters and the spike. Either use supports (I didn't -> speed) or do whatever else you got to do to print things nearly horizontally. Clearing the model up afterwards does work, too - spikes on the bottom did come off easy on my print. So handle those with care.
