This a 12 Bladed mechanical iris. The main body has a diameter of 8.4cm, the control handle sticking out by about 2cm. The height is 1.1cm. Composed of 5 STL files; Base, Spin Control, 6Blades and Cover. The 6Blades STL will of course need to be printed twice.
I managed to print this on my Flash Forge Creator at a resolution of 0.15mm using 1.75 PLA. It certainly pushed the detail limits, as one of the blades would pop off if I closed the Iris too much. Brief build instructions : (It is recommend to switch off raft and support structure settings, you'll get a smoother finish, especially on the blades) 1. The 12 blades should clip onto the base with the pegs facing upwards, the last few will be a little tricky. Each blade should slide over the previous blade. 2. The Spin control should fit snuggly, with each blade peg fitting into a groove. 3. Lastly the cover is squeezed on, fitting a tad more snuggly than the Spin control. On some of the STLs is a small cylinder, this is meant to intercept any ooze from the print head before it prints the model. When dealing with precision I found it's better to sacrifice a bit of plastic for the sake of time spent cleaning up the model.
