Description
This slab was a part of a funerary monument and was on the side of the altar. The type of altars with inscriptions on the main face and portraits on the sides often related to the profession of the deceased and enjoyed great success in the Roman times. Inside the slab is a virile persionage (difficult to say if it is the deceased, as in some altars of Aquileia, or a servant, as in the specimens of Noricum and Pannonia): he wears a tunic with a cape over it, similar to the paenula, forming a broad fold on the chest. This type of clothing was adopted in a provincial environment by free men and women, and also by slaves.
