Inspired by the above video and the awesome lighting tricks that can be done using a light and mirror, I designed this small mirror holder as a budget alternative to the baby pin plates he uses to hold his mirrors. The design is comprised of a body (built for mirrors that are 200mm x 200mm x 3mm) that the mirror slides into, a threaded rod with a threaded slot for a standard 1/4th inch screw thread (used with most photography equipment) for mounting, and a hinged lid to secure the mirror inside the holder.
There is enough space for mirrors with tape (as in one of the example photos) to be used as well to create that awesome fake window look!
This is a super great trick to create amazing lighting effects without spending a bunch of money. :)
All files can be printed without supports in the provided orientation. Duplicate the hinged lid file to have one for each side. The hinged lids print as separate pieces and then are firmly pushed into the printed grooves after completion. Please note that it is a very tight fit and unlikely to come off once put on!
I recommend .3mm layers for the body for faster printing, and .2mm layers for the hinged lids and rod.
I recommend printing in PETG as well to give the hinges some flexibility to be snapped on, but is not a requirement.
If you have a different sized mirror the design can be scaled in the required dimension, but do so at your own risk. Be sure to check the measurements are correct before printing, and make sure to scale all files in the same amount to ensure the rod and hinged lid also fit with the new dimensions.
