Description
This irregularly broken slab is bounded on the left by a pillar, whose capital holds an architrave. In the center, under an arch, is a male figure holding a long-handled ax with both hands with the intent to hit something, perhaps an animal.
The incomplete inscription says:
"Claud(ius) Rog(atus)/ in theatro/ manu sua/ delecit - "Claudio Rogato fell, by his own hand, into theater"
There is an N followed by CCC (300) on the pillar on the left, which has been the subject of different interpretations. The slab is likely to have been inserted into a larger structure, perhaps a funerary monument or a civil architectural complex.
