Description
This sphinx corresponds to the Greek tradition representation: the head of a human, the haunches of a lion and the wings of a bird. However, considering its placing at the entrance of a palace, one may suppose it was closer to the Egyptian signification - a benevolent yet ferociously strong creature. In both cultures they were believed to be great guardians of sacred places.
