Description
The girl languid on a rock is a variation of the famous Sleeping Ariadne of the Vatican Museum ( the composition is reversed ) . This would in both cases Ariadne, daughter of King Minos, Theseus abandoned on Naxos by yet she had helped defeat the Minotaur. The Roman sculptor was inspired here by editing, a Greek original of the second century BC
