I wanted to reduce the weight/mass at the extruder. Most bowden designs added more. So this is an attempt to reduce the mass and to keep an unobstucted view of nozzle by resiting the fan. All nuts (3mm) are a press fit into body using gland pliers or a vise and therefore don't fall out. There is an integral holder to take an led lamp to illuminate workpiece which is located behind mount to act as shade.
If this is a first time coversion from a standard build that has the extuder at the nozzle, then bear in mind that due to 'slap' of the filament in the bowden tube more retraction is required to stop dribble. E.g. 3-5 mm depending on length.
I did produce a design with the guides being integral, but there were alignment issues. So it's better to use bolt on guides, which give a degree of latitude.
Consists of 3 pieces : Body, saddle and clip-in adjustable nozzle. As with all of my designs so far, it doesn't need supports.
Straight blade nozzzle is tried and tested. The claw nozzle is experimental
Requires extruder drive-motor mounting bracket which is available from MANY other sources.
Re-uses fan.
There is NON-Printable STL of the complete assmbly. Also Experimental crab-claw nozzle.
Body: Print on lamp edge down to table. Needs good adhesion and skirt optional.
Nozzle: print on end.
Saddle: Print on back.
NO supports required. PLA 210C ,Bed 40C, Nozzle 1.75mm
