I set out to create the most screen accurate design of the Dark Helmet's Helmet from Spaceballs possible. To this end i worked with a 3d designer to pull together as many screen grabs, marketing images and documentation collected when one of the hero props sold at auction several years ago to create something that matches the contours and the curves as close as possible without directly examing the actual prop.
With that said i present the files to all to share. I have included a complete helmet shell file so that it can be broken up into several parts based on your printer. I have also included the files for the helmet shell split into the four pieces that i used to print on a large format 3d printer.
What is not included and will have to be created based on your own preferences is the attachment of the mask portion. There are several well documented methods of doing this and its really up to your preference and skill level for how you want to achieve the lifting of the mask.
The eye pieces of the mask are open. You will want to get tinted acrylic to place in the openings.
Recommend using a large format printer. My first version i printed used a Prusa Mk3s. There were way to many parts and too much warps in the print to get a good alignment across the 16 pieces that made up the shell. Printing it in four pieces matched up much better. I was also able to minmize supports by printing it with the top curve of the helmet facing the build plate.
