Description
This frozen Charlotte doll was archaeologically recovered in Washington, D.C. and dates to the late 19th or early 20th centuries. The doll takes its name from a popular ballad “Young Charlotte” which itself is based on Seba Smith’s 1843 poem “A Corpse Going to a Ball” (see http://digitalcommons.library.umaine.edu/songstorysamplercollection/28/ for more details and an audio recording. This porcelain toy was 3D scanned with a NextEngine Desktop 3D scanner and is courtesy of the Historic Preservation Office in the DC Office of Planning (https://planning.dc.gov/page/historic-preservation-office).
