Island of Paros (Greece) ?, acquired in 1897
Marble from Paros ?, around 460 BC
This masterpiece is one of the most beautiful funerary reliefs from classical Greece. In her left hand, the deceased holds a round container, the lid to which lies on the ground in front of her, and extracts from it a piece of jewellery or a woollen bandage, which once was painted. A magnificent palmette forms the finial of the relief stele.
