So you just bought a grove moisture sensor from Seeed and you wanna use it by putting it directly in the ground. I'm going to do this, but I don't want any damage on the electric components . So I drawn a body in Solidworks and 3D print it with my Prusa I3 MK2S MMU. And to protect everything I fill it up with epoxy resin.
In the box:
When you download the file you can do anything with it. You can make changes and redesign it for personal use, I really don't care! But you are not allowed to share any of my products before or after a redesign or modification. Nor can you take credits for any modification you have done without my consult or approval.
There is also a STEP file included for the people who wanna make changes to the body.
Draw product:
I first made a nominal drawing of the sensor and added a 0.25mm offset. When there are small differences with the sensor it would always fit in the body because you have a tolerance of 0.5mm in total.
Printing:
I used a Premium PLA from formfutura.com with a 102,50% scale. If I would print it again I would lower the Scale to 101,50% or try it without scale. It would fit theoretically.
But after the print?:
Well, if you are done with printing you can fit the sensor in the body. The 2 plastics sticking out are for you to melt so the sensor doesn't get lose on the body. You get a small metal pin and heat it. The temperature doesn't need to be high because PLA gets soft around 60 °C. I use (blue) tape to tape down the body (expect the wires) and then I used a epoxy resin what also I use with my polyester glass fibre and fill up the whole sensor and body. After 20/30 min. you can take off the tape (this depends on the epoxy resin to harden) and you have a sensor that is sealed.
I used Premium PLA - Ocean Blue from Formfutura.com.
My nozzle is 215° and bed 65° (and a glass plate).
Printspeed is 35mm/s
I used a 100% infill without support.
I printed 4 products so al these values are with 4 products printed at the same time!
