"The Last Vision" also known as "Star of The Morning".
After the death of Maurice Rollinat (1846-1903), the art critic Dayot who highly appreciated Rollinat’s work, asked Rodin to create a sculpture of the poet as tribute. Rodin immediately refuses to work and create a sculpture without having the possibility to see the living model. He then decides to start working on a relief without a specific goal in mind, he lets his inspiration and creativity guide him.
The result is an emblematic work which not only represents the dead poet, but also showcases pre-existing elements of Rodin’s work.
The head of the woman and that of the man, seem to come right out of the marble block giving the idea of a dreamlike experience reinforced by the hand of the woman covering the man’s eyes.
