Old Knidos/Datça (Turkey), acquired in 1902
Marble, 520 - 500 BC
The lion of Knidos is characterissed by an upright leaping stance and a gaunt, doglike body with tense muscles and sharply protruding ribs. The massive, peacefully resting Ionian cats of prey, like the lion of Miletus displayed opposite, appear distinctly different.
