Description
The mask is made up of an anthropomorphic vegetable motif. The mouth opens in a grimace that reveals the tongue.
It is decidedly difficult to define even with an approximate note the origin of this decorative furniture, which is to be related to the analogous candelabra masks widespread in ornamental pilasters from the end of the 15th Century onwards.
It is also difficult to establish its function, as there is a lack of data that could indicate its destination, such as the holes for water in fountain ornaments.
However, one cannot but notice the solid carving that increases its grotesque characteristics.
