Description
This spool holder is an entry for the Joel Telling / 3D Printing Nerd Spool Holder Design Challenge. This design is intended to fit on the shelving unit that he presented in his video.
The goals of this design:
- Safely and Securly add a spool holder to Joel's shelf
- Clean design with minimal visible fasteners
- Allow space for the spools above not to interfere with the one on the holder
- Easy installation, relocation and removal
- Minimized need for supports
- Replacable spindle for different size filament spools
Components of the model
- Frame (main body which sits on the lumber)
- Spindle (part on which the spool hangs/spins)
- Bottom Slider (inserted into frame to secure it around the lumber)
- Screw (to fasten the spindle to the frame)
- Rotating Lock (to prevent the spindle from spinning itself)
- Slider Stop (to prevent the bottom slider from coming loose)
Assembly Instructions
- Print all parts
- Insert screw into frame from inside toward front
- Line the spindle up with the screw and use the hole in the rear of frame to turn screw (Do not fully tighten yet)
- Insert rotating lock into frame from inside at the slot and rotate spindle until lock slides in place
- Tighten screw
- Insert slider stop (small end) into hole at rear of frame by rotating to be parallel with the top.
- Install holder on lumber
- Insert bottom slider and insert fully into front of frame
- Rotate slider stop to secure bottom slider
- Hang spool on completed holder
- ...
- Print more stuff!
Printing Details
- Frame - Print on side such that the back lock prints upright
- Spindle - Print from end which connects to the frame
- Bottom Slider - Print from the back (visible section at the rear of the frame)
- Screw - Print however you like. Supposed to match an M4 screw from a hardware store
- Rotating lock - Print with slot facing down. May require supports.
- Slider Stop - this part likely requires supports to print correctly. Suggest printing the back (larger) side down
