Description
This relief was found at Mantineia, Arkadia.
It is part of a set of 4 slabs, that formed the revetment of a pedestal for the statues of the Delian trinity (Leto, Apollon and Artemis), or of an altar. Here are depicted three of the nine Muses holding musical instruments and scrolls.
The relief is distinctly Praxitelean in style and was probably carved by one of the great sculptor's pupils.
