Description
Sidney Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Lea (1810-1861) was an English statesman and a close ally and confidant of Florence Nightingale, who was an English social reformer and the founder of modern nursing.
The statue's inscriptions say:
On front of plinth: Sidney Herbert
On left side of plinth: Born 16 Sep 1810
On right side of plinth: Died 2 Aug. 1861
On back of plinth: Erected by public subscription, A.D. 1867.
On the base of the statue: J.H. Foley R.A. Sc., 1866
