Description
This is the earliest known stone free-standing statue of Nike, possibly the work of the sculptor Archermos from Chios.
Nike is the Greek goddess of victory. This is typical of Archaic Greek sculpture as it does not yet have the refinement and attention to detail, neither the precision of depiction as Classical Greek sculpture, which appeared at the end of the 5th century.
