Athens (Greece) ?, acquired in 1892
Marble, 430 - 420 BC
The garment gliding down from the left shoulder and the breasts shimmering through the thin fabric make it clear that this is a representation of the goddess of love. The stylistic proximity to the sculptures of the Parthenon in Athens has led to the hypothetical identification with an Aphrodite Urania of Phidias.
