The figure of a worker dislodging a stone from the pavement, looking at his adversaries with hate in his eyes is moulded with anatomical details faithfully reproduced. It is expressive in communicating the tension and dynamics of the action. The work is made complete by the psychological treatment of the face, justified by the context. A.V.Lunacharsky, People's Commissar for Enlightenment and art critic, wrote that Shadr's work "… has something of the drawing-room, of that elegant meticulous finish that was the pride of the French sculptures of the past generation, which now even in France are seen as the last of the Mohicans…", but having said that, he was right in pointing out that "I think it quite possible that the statue with its clear-cut shape, true to life and at the same time subdued in its impact, will make a very favourable impression on our audience." In effect, of all the works displayed at the exhibition "10th Anniversary of the October Revolution", Shadr's work attracted the greatest number of comments. A bronze copy of the sculpture was installed at the minipark by the Ulitsa 1905 Goda metro station in Moscow
